There are a couple ideas in your post that we have been thinking about.
1. We're working to improve the way our image scraper works. We get lots of great photos, but we also miss photos.
2. Finding closely related images. I have a couple of ideas about how we can use topic and timestamp together to find great images that are very likely to be related to the post.

Jack,
We'd love to see this idea expressed on the VOT3R site. http://www.vot3r.com
The economy needs fresh and creative ideas.

Lowell Goss replied on August 16, 2008 05:48 to the question "Why are there so many duplicate stories?" in LOUD3R:
Hmm. The LOUD3R platform finds stories from hundreds of sources. As you point out we find many articles that are essentially duplicates.
The screenshot below is from the front page of BUZZ3R. We found 10 stories about Google Android. From that group of stories we found the BEST story and display it first. The related stories are alternate versions of the BEST story.
In most cases we accurately detect and cluster duplicates stories together into a cluster. It's good, but not perfect. We are working on making it perfect.
Thank you for letting us know that you want to see the cluster creation and display improved. What else would you like to see improved in the next version?

Great idea. Socializing the site is definitely an important next step. What else should we be doing to connect you to the outside world?
Did you register for http://fast3r.com or http://www.vot3r.com ?
Lowell replied on February 20, 2008 15:52 to the question "What determines "Most popular" in the ordering of news items?" in LOUD3R:
I thought you were going to ask about "Most Interesting". The Most Popular measure is an aggregate of user activity on LOUD3R for that news item. Clicks. Comments. Sharing.
A couple of questions.
1. Should we make that more transparent?
2. Do we need Most Popular and Most Interesting?
3. Should we continue with an implicit measure or should we go for something like voting where users have more apparent control?
