Natural language input improvementsMake it possible to type all or some of the category text, without hierarchy
Check OmniFocus, and Quicksilver on OSx For an example of excellent Natural language input.
It took me alotlonger to set up Moneydance because I had to enter the Category list via direct manipulation, instead of just typeing the name of the category. I know this is possible- but, Each time I would have to type the full word of the main cat and then enter the colon (which doesnt appear in the auto complete) then the actual category i want (E.G personal:groceries) It would be fantastic and amazingly quick if it was possible just to type 'gro' or 'phon' - a portion of any part of the Category path to find the sub cat)
at least it would be helpful if MD autocompleted the main category with the colon 'Personal:'
Hope this is useful.
cheers.

Moneydance user guide- Not that HelpfulWhen starting with moneydance, I didnt find the userguide that helpful. I felt it just descried the interface, rather than helping me work out what I need to do with it, or what actually happens when I do something. It would be helpful if there was more information on how Moneydance works.
For Example, the Reminders tool looks very useful, so I set up some reminders, at the bottom of the dialog is the 'Commit' tick box and a place where I can ente rthe transaction.
What happends here? Will it duplicate in my accounts? (after importing a statement?) should i enter reminders for Scheduled payments (Direct debits)
I think I have worked this out, and this is just an example- but the interface or userguide doesnt really give anything away and makes me feel anxious. Perhaps some help within the UI would be good.

Hi, Thanks for your reply, Ended up starting from 1 jan this year and used the starting balances from the balance on my statements from the first of jan.
In the end, some how there was a discrepency on 2 accounts, which i couldnt figure out, so I did exactly what you said and made a category called 'FAKE TRANSACTION' to balance the bottom line. Things should go fine from here I think.

A comment on the question "The iPhone isn't syncing to my Macbook via bluetooth!" in Apple:
I dont think its really like that, There is a development cost to everything so they have to balance that out against Project deadlines, Launch dates and all that. buying hardware from suppliers is the easy bit, Im sure the Bluetooth Radio is as up to date as everyone elses, (your CRT analogy) but from my frustrating experience the problem is being able to develop the software and all the impact it has on the rest of the system.
No one is going to give Apple anything, Mobile handset business is cut throat, they will have to figure things out themselves, or buy in solutions (which then have to be compatible with the rest of the system). they probably thought spending money on the Text input was money better spent, for example. But Im only guessing here.
As a side note-
Im still getting used to no MMS- I used to love sending pics to friends. I think the Thinking behind apple's choice is, that it isnt the future- MMS is a terrible tech, everyone will be on the web soonemailing and facebooking pics instead.

Ive thought about this, and all the other omissions alot and I think people are expecting too much from a device only in its second iteration (not even that?) from a company immature in the mobile handset industry. Ive think they have done well to get the basics right and it seems they have thought hard about the trade offs between quality battery life, feature set, and UX.
I think Wireless sync of PIM data and media may make an appearence if wireless 802.11n can be accomodated without too much hit on battery life.

How to make moneydance reflect my bank balances?Im trying to set up Money Dance. I have set up accounts for all of my
Bank, loan and Credit card accounts, and Entered starting balances. I
have not entered acurate starting dates.
I have started to manually download my Checking account statements (My
UK Bank Royal Bank Scotland is not supported)
The problem is balance has changed based on these entries from my
checking account. I do not have access to statements to enter the
entire account history.
How do i set up Moneydance to give an accurate picture of my current
financial status?
Should I ignore all previous transactions and just enter starting
balances and start inputting from this day forward?
Fom a financial management Point of view- do my old transactions matter?
Thanks in advance for your help.
