Why can't I connect a USB hard drive to TV? and use it as additional storage I mean, the whole point of USB is plug-n-play, right?

I can't play music over my Airport Express since I upgraded to iTunes 7.7. The problem has been reported by other customers on the Apple support web site, but I can't find a solution.
