Luis asked a question in HP on March 05, 2009 15:26:
DV9417CL woes- Powers up, loops reboot. Nvidia issue..I gave up hope on this issue many months ago but I recently discovered this website so maybe someone (hopefully) can help me with my dilemma. :(
My HP laptop (dv9417cl model) was on the list to have the motherboard replaced due to the infamous NVIDIA issue. It has all the symptoms. Began with no wireless, then trouble starting up, and finally just no graphic capabilities at all. I quickly learned about the extended warranty issued by HP (this was around 5 months ago) and so I called to have the motherboard replaced, like it said on the website. After sending the laptop, I would regularly check my service status page in hopes that it would be ready to be sent back to me. One day, I check the page and I find that the cost for the repair has changed from $0 to ~$750. I was extremely puzzled as to why this would happen to I called HP for answers. I was told that dried liquid (didn't really specify what kind) was found inside the laptop so the warranty no longer covered the repair.
I'm still very frustrated over this, mostly because I know the reason the laptop died was because of something that was wrong with the computer even before I bought it and it can't be replaced. The extended warranty on my laptop is supposed to end this July (2009) according to the HP website.
Is there anything I can do to fix the computer? I'm pretty short on cash but I'd be grateful if someone could enlighten me with options I have to fix this issue. Thanks!~
