brooke J,
Thanks for kindly giving me a heads up on the adapter! Will look into this more while my warranty is still in effect.
I did notice in your previous post though that your adapter wasn't recognized by your system. Mine is recognized by my system and has always been recognized by my system with no further action on my part. Whether or not this makes any difference, I don't know. Perhaps the fact I have to unplug and plug the adapter back in to get it to charge is just really another symptom of a defective adapter rather than a "quirk" of this particular adapter?
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance. - Lynn

Problem w/ my adapter solved: Repairman from another site suggested that while the computer is on and plugged in, to unplug the adapter and then plug it back in again. Guess what? That worked for me! The computer then started charging. – LynnComputerUser, on October 12, 2009 02:51

I have a M1530 and had adapter problems after having the computer for a short period of time. It was really frustrating. Luckily, I found this neat little trick from the web that fixed this annoying problem:
Plug the adapter into the computer and into the wall (or power strip). Turn the computer on. Wait for the computer to get to the desktop and to stop booting (It's done booting when the hard drive light in the front finally stops flickering.) . Then unplug the adapter from the computer. Wait 2 seconds and plug the adapter back into the computer. Now your computer should suddenly start charging. Mine does every time!
I hope this trick works for you as it has for me!

Got the same problem too. I have a Dell XPS 1530.
When I plug it in, it seems to charge randomly. By this I mean, about a month ago, it got to 80% charge then charged, a few times since it got to 97% charge then charged and now about 9 months of ownership it's at 69% and won't charge. I tried e-mailing them about this but got no response.-
