The e-mail verification message should have a generated password in it. You click on the "Confirm" link in the e-mail and that lets us know your e-mail address is valid. This will also take you to your dashboard, and from there you can change that password.
Here's an example:

Also, you might find more information here: http://getsatisfaction.com/satisfacti...
And, if that doesn't help, let me know, and we'll make sure to get it fixed for you!

I have been getting this since I upgraded to Leopard. At the moment, it is doing it every 5 minutes. I have previously set up a connection with my husband's computer, so I will sometimes get this message when I first log on if his machine is turned off. I can't figure out how to tell the machine to not automatically connect. It's really annoying.

Read what max Brusco wrote. Be sure that no camera or card is connected. Launch Image Capture. (It should be in your Applications folder.) Choose Image Capture->Preferences. (As in other applications, Preferences is not in the File menu.) Click on "Camera" and then "No application" by "When a camera is connected, open ..." That should do it. I just did it with an SD card reader.
Another suggestion for Amy would be to use the software that came with the camera. I keep Canon's software on my iMac G4 because it allows me to choose which photos to import. Starting with iPhoto 6, iPhoto now imports all or none. (Earlier versions allowed you to choose which to import.) I import the photos to a folder with Canon's Camera Window, then import those into iPhoto. That allows me to keep photos on the camera card without importing (and then deleting) them every time in iPhoto. You can do the same with Image Capture, but Canon's software indicates which have been downloaded before.

M. Brusco,
It looks like some bug in our code created a duplicate user account for you, and having two identical accounts was causing problems with the database.
The canonical name is your name as it appears in the url for your profile, in this case, m_brusco. Obviously, the DB shouldn't allow two people to have the same canonical name.
But that is beside the point. You should be able to reset your password, and otherwise update your account. I've delete the duplicate account, and I'll look into what caused this problem in the first place.

Cannot change passwordI signed up and can log in with the password I was emailed, but when I try to change it I get a message that the "canonical name" (same as nickname?) is taken. I cannot make any changes at all to my account. Bummer!

I've been getting a very similar error, and I upgraded to Leopard. I think it happens whenever I launch Dreamweaver. My hunch is that there are old aliases that don't point to anything anymore; in my case, FTP connections or other network connections that Dreamweaver is trying to access. But, networking is my Achilles' heel, so I could be completely off base. Anyone else get this error?
