Have you tried unplugging the Nunchuk?
If I remember correctly, boxing is the only Nunchuk enabled game in Wii Sports.

Do you know anybody else with a Wii? If so, try playing the disc on their console. If something similiar happens on their Wii, there's a defect in the Wii Sports disc. If they do the same thing and the game runs seamlessly, there's something wrong with your console or disc drive.
