James replied on March 20, 2009 05:56 to the question "Why can't I buy a new MacBook Pro with a matte (non-glossy) display?" in Apple:
Regarding your existing warranty and AppleCare, the short version of TechRestore's answer is, "We don't think there will be a problem." Here's the long version:
"We provide a 1-year warranty on your new screen. Our technicians have performed tens of thousands of repairs on in-warranty laptops since 1994 and we have never had a warranty declined by the manufacturer due to our service. Of course, the manufacturer will not cover any parts we install on your laptop, we take care of that for you. In the unlikely event that you have a problem getting warranty service on your laptop after we perform any repair or upgrade, simply give us a call so we can provide you with assistance. We are here to help."

James replied on January 07, 2009 08:27 to the problem "Why won't my iPod Touch send email unless I'm connected to my LAN?" in Apple:
Come to think of it, both of you just gave me an idea.
Try going back to your original Surewest SMTP settings. You'll have to go through several configurations to find out if this works, but it's worth a shot.
Start on your home network. We want to make sure that at least it works at home before we go changing anything. When you select your SMTP server, you'll see the "User Name" and "Password" fields below. Enter your full Surewest email address in the "User Name" section, then your Surewest email password in the "Password" field. Now, go to "Authentication", and select "MD5 Challenge-Response".
Now, try to send an email from your iPod Touch via your home network. If it doesn't work, select the next authentication option until you run out (there are 4 total).
If it still doesn't work, change the "User Name" to just your Surewest email username (the email address, but without the "@whatever.com" part), and cycle through the authentication options again.
Once you have found one (or two or three) that work for you at home, take it on the road to another Wi-Fi network with internet access and try to send an email. If it doesn't work, try changing the SMTP's Server Port to 587 or 465.
If it still doesn't work (I know, it feels like this is going on forever), you might want to take it to a Genius Bar at an Apple Retail Store (if you're close to one). Sometimes, it's a lot easier to fix these things if you have the iPod in hand, rather than over a discussion forum like this.
Or, you could create a Gmail account and add it to your iPod, as mentioned above. That should tell use exactly what is at fault, but fixing it may be another story entirely.
James replied on January 07, 2009 04:59 to the question "An iPhone has a security lock on it and i would just like to get around this, it is really frustrating. can anyone do anything?" in Apple:
Take it to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Retail Store. If he registered the iPhone correctly, they'll be able to return it to him. If he didn't, they'll clear it off and make it yours.

First, make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.

James replied on January 07, 2009 00:45 to the problem "where did this charge come from" in Apple:
It's not Apple. You're not the only one, someone out there is being very clever and forging both Apple and iTunes on these charges.
The best thing you can do right now is report the charges to your credit card company and close your current account.

James replied on January 07, 2009 00:43 to the question "Why doesn't my iphone support flash?" in Apple:
Adobe and Apple are working on it, but the last report is that they weren't happy with how slow the test build was (slowing Safari to a crawl when loading web pages with flash elements, flash videos that play almost at the speed of a slideshow, etc.). I expect that we'll see it someday, but they have to figure out how to make it run smoothly on the iPhone's rather low system specs first.
A comment on the problem "Why won't my iPod Touch send email unless I'm connected to my LAN?" in Apple:
It doesn't look like authentication was enabled in the screen shot above. The user name and password fields still had "Optional" in grey text. – James, on January 06, 2009 17:23
James replied on January 06, 2009 09:40 to the problem ".me account is a greedy CC-charging vampire that will not die even after being canceled twice" in Apple:
It's a stretch, but I'm guessing that your troubles with canceling your account were related to the free extension that Apple offered us. Thanks to the free extension, none of us were able to upgrade or cancel our MobileMe service during the extension period, which I believe lasted for 60 days after our original renewal dates.
Now that your account has successfully been renewed (a sarcastic "Hooray!"), you should be able to cancel via normal procedures and will be eligible for a full refund within 45 days of the charge. See the following guide for more info:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2174
If that doesn't work, you'll have to contact MobileMe support via their nifty (more sarcasm) chat interface. Just go to http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/ select "Account & Billing", then "Cancel", and click the chat button that appears.
"MobileMe chat is available daily from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Central Time, except on holidays."
Good luck!

James replied on January 06, 2009 06:41 to the problem "Why can't I view digital/interactive booklets in iTunes 7?" in Apple:
This is a long explanation, but I hope it makes sense at the end.
Before I begin, let me point out that the "Interactive Booklets" have been discontinued, and the new "Digital Booklets" included with more recent albums are PDFs and open in your default PDF reader when selected in iTunes.
Unfortunately, Apple's stance on the former Interactive Booklets is that they were offered as a free bonus with the album, so you can't necessarily claim that you paid for it.
Long ago, when iTunes was young, Apple included support for Macromedia's Flash format within QuickTime. This made it very easy to provide interactive booklets with many iTunes albums, as QuickTime and its support for a multitude of file formats were already at iTunes' core.
Years later, as Flash became more mainstream (and Macromedia was purchased by Adobe), several security vulnerabilities began to be exploited in the Flash format. The official Flash player was updated to close the vulnerabilities, but Adobe refused to work with Apple to close the vulnerabilities within QuickTime's Flash support. Eventually, Apple had no choice but to disable QuickTime's support of Flash content in order to protect their users (though they still provided a way to enable it via the System Preference pane).
After this, Apple began to seek a way to integrate iTunes with Adobe's official Flash player. Unfortunately, Adobe yet again refused to work with Apple.
Much to our dismay, Flash support was eventually removed from QuickTime, and the Interactive Booklets where officially discontinued (though most remain available for some reason) and replaced in later albums by the PDF Digital Booklets.
Alex's reply to "No access to old computers - how to deauthorize iTunes??" was just promoted to the most useful! James and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
