A comment on the question "Comcast charging more money for Channels like MSNBC" in Comcast:
The fact is that Comcast does not HAVE to switch these analog channels to digital, but is doing so under the guise of the Feb. 2009 switchover for OVER THE AIR signals. You know, the one's received by rabbit ears.
And the fact is that the digital box DOES cost more money because one is required to pay a monthly fee for each television connected. Comcast is simply waiving that $3 monthly fee for the first year because the company knows that few will notice the fee when it kicks in.
So, for every television you have in your home with cable directly connected (no box), unless the television has an ATSC tuner built in (read: the TV is newer than 3 - 4 years old), you'll need to pay for a box. Even if you have digital cable, if it is connected directly to the television you will need to pay. Say you have four TV's in your house right now -- one with a box, and 3 directly connected. If you want those 3 televisions to receive a signal, you will be paying $9+ per month for a box. – Mad Man Moon, on August 19, 2008 03:11
