Easiest way to fix this is to use Friendorfollow.com(http://friendorfollow.com/) or twitter karma (http://dossy.org/twitter/karma/)
There's only so much you can keep harping on at twitter about this.. Unfortunately, we're still only a minority experiencing this problem.. so till enough people make this a serious enough issue, it'll be upto us to just hack our way with great tools like the ones I suggested..

One other solution, is if you login to help.twitter.com, even if you're locked out, it authenticates you, and then you can go to twitter.com and use your twitter acct from the main website at least ;)

@mdy the problem is I don't want to listen to conversations based on topic, but listen to what people are talking about.. so for example, I'm listening to South African, New Zealand, and Australian twitterers just to hear what they're talking about.. I don't want to necessarily unfollow them, or know what topics I want to listen to.. Just their conversations in general.. That just sucks!! So essentially what you're saying is that if I'm pro-actively looking to listen in to more conversations, I can't listen to more people than are listening to me???
That means I can't just be a fly on the wall anymore?
