Until twitter sort it out, try Lynne's workaround.

magslhalliday replied on March 18, 2009 19:33 to the question "what are twitter shortcuts?" in Twitter:
you use the hash sigh to tag your posts. See the twitter wiki. Then if you are looking for a particular topic or breaking event, you can use the search function to see all tweets tagged with the hashtag.
For example, when the weather was bad in the UK last month, the hashtag #uksnow was developed to track it. When a story is happening live, you're better off using twitscoop as it updates live.
It's also used in some of the more creative methods of tweeting, such as #haiku.

@roo17 - I'm 'blaming' @stephenfry for the increasing demand myself. ;)
It's annoying because I travel a lot and the site is barred at work, so SMS is the most effective means of tweeting. I also want to use the new train update service (http://uktrains.pbwiki.com/) but there's currently no point.

I've submitted a support request on this, including a link back to here.
I'm a bit surprised no one from twitter has responded or acknowledged the problem, especially as the UK is the largest expanding twitter market in the world at the moment. In the last four days, how many new users will have tried the SMS function, got a fail and dismissed it as 'twitter not being great'?

<aol>me too</aol>
I'm in UK on an O2 contract.
My account is PIN protected and has been since the last time all UK users had a problem sending SMSs (last year some time - we all had to set PINs to make it work).
I'm using tweetdeck when I'm at a PC but I'm out and about a lot so would rather SMS.
When sending tweets about this via tweetdeck, I'm hashtagging it #uk_sms_FAIL in the possibly futile hope that if the tag starts gaining weight in Twitscoop we might get a response...-

this Indy piece says 2way tweets are about to return to the UK http://tinyurl.com/cps887 yet I can find nothing on twitter itself. Come ON!
Even if it's still a "we are indeed working on it" status update it's better than leaving us to find out via that retro communications system of print!
magslhalliday replied on January 25, 2009 10:53 to the question "UK SMS alerts: any news?" in Twitter:
Update. According to this piece in the Indy newspaper, 2way tweeting is about to be restored in the UK. http://tinyurl.com/cps887
It would be rather nice for twitter to acknowledge the accuracy of the story, and give us a rough idea when we can expect to get it back...please?

Thanks for the suggestions and links. I do find it hard to find the most relevant post here, and official information seems rather scarce on twitter itself. – magslhalliday, on November 16, 2008 13:00
