I'm glad you are enjoying the app. I cannot agree more that using sensor data + user driven feeds to augment social presence is a very interesting field of research.
I'm not sure I get your synch problem. Couldn't you use some sort of loose synch? Anyways, thanks again for sharing your comments with us .
Best,

Hello James,
thanks a lot for your valuable comments, you raise a very good point. We attribute great values to feedbacks like yours because they give us a better sense about how to improve CenceMe.
We are definitely re-thinking the format of the CenceMe status on Facebook which will be changed with the next releases of the app.
Thanks a lot again for your contribution, please let us know if you have more feedbacks/questions.
Best,

Hi there,
yes, you can find technical papers about CenceMe at the bottom of this page: http://cenceme.org/about.html
in particular, the SenSys 2008 paper is the one that describes the technology. More technical papers about our research are listed here:

emiliano_miluzzo replied on January 12, 2009 18:06 to the question "[from CenceMe] as Status in Facebook." in CenceMe:
Hi there,
the CenceMe Facebook status reports either:
1. the default name of the IconMe icon if you didn't add any message when uploading the icon;
2. the message you add to an IconMe icon.
So, if you have never uploaded an IconMe icon since the installation of CenceMe, you just get [from CenceMe] as status. If instead you upload an IconMe icon with, for example, the following text: "Going to have lunch";
then you'll see: [from CenceMe] Going to have lunch.
Let me know if you still have any problems.

About some App Store reviewsHi all,
We want to clarify something about some of the reviews you find on App Store about CenceMe. It is not clear why someone writes that the CenceMe support email address is not valid, stating also that CenceMe customer support is poor.
This is not true at all since:
1. the support email addresses, namely, cenceme-help@cenceme.org and cenceme-info@cenceme.org, are perfectly working;
2. the CenceMe team is usually very responsive when a question is received by email or posted on our Discussion forum.
We are happy to assist you and our goal is to support all our customers as timely and successfully as we can. So, should you experience any problems with CenceMe, please keep sending or posting, respectively, via email or on our forum, your questions.
Best,
-emiliano

can you please send us your Facebook ID? we'll try to dig a bit more. You can find the ID by going in your Facebook profile page and in the URL bar you'll see something like: .facebook.com/profile.php?id=12345678&ref=profile
the ID is 12345678.
Can you please send it to this email address: cenceme-help@cenceme.org ?

uhm, what you describe is pretty unusual. Can I ask you one more thing? Could you please ask all your CenceMe buddies, if you can, to just upload an IconMe icon (no photo and no text)?
Let's see if this way your buddies appear again on the phone. If you do not mind, it would be great, in an effort to diagnose the problem, if before they do the update you could send me (using this email address cenceme-help@cenceme.org) the current content of your friends' message along with the icons associated to them.
Thanks a lot,

Hi,
I'll be glad to help. Can you please tell me:
- if you have removed the CenceMe app from Facebook as indicated in here http://cenceme.org/faq.html#7 before reinstalling it;
- if you removed any additional permissions too in the same page where you remove the application on Facebook from. If you haven't removed the permissions, please do so;
- if you made sure your friend still has CenceMe installed on his phone and Facebook page. If your friend removed CenceMe from his Facebook profile you won't be able to see him/her anymore;
- the firmware version of your iPhone. I recommend upgrading to 2.1 if you haven't done so yet.
Thanks,
-emiliano
emiliano_miluzzo replied on October 14, 2008 03:56 to the idea "CenceMe without Facebook" in CenceMe:
Hello,
thanks for the very good question.
We took the Facebook path to simplify the system to start with. By using Facebook we can rely on some already deployed infrastructure that we do not need to build on our own. The nice thing with this approach is that it allowed us to speed up things from a development point of view. The downside is that only Facebook users for now can use CenceMe. However, after three months CenceMe has been operational and having received many requests from users asking us to make CenceMe available also to non-Facebook subscribers, we made the decision to open CenceMe up. We are developing right now a solution that enables the use of CenceMe even if people are not Facebook users at all.
Please be patient, the new CenceMe which doesn't require Facebook will be out in the next couple of months. Meanwhile... new cool features are coming.
Thanks a lot again,
-emiliano
