Hi Adam,
I can disable the discovery links the way you described. But I and I think also Ibn are talking about the popup showing a magnifying glass that is shown when I select something in the Browser (see the pic I added). This was introduced with the latest update, discovery links where introduced much earlier. I hope this helps.

Actually I don't remember the previous version's number, But I'm using Songbird roughly for three months. The Xp is service pack 3.

I've updated Songbird to 1.1.2 :-(
The bird don't sing anymore because it always hangs in Updating Library :(
Very disappointing

(I'm using a Windows XP system)
