@ian:
right, good idea.
so one could just select all labels (with OR connection) except the "christmas" one, but songs labeled with "christmas, classical" or similar would still be played as long as "classical" ist selected as well, so an "exclude" function would be useful...
thanks ian! didn't think about that... but that's what we are here for! ;-)
and to find someone who can program this...
@Murphy
I know THAT it can be done and have a rough idea of how the logic behind it should be, but I don't know the programming language and don't have the time learning it.
I tried it with foobar, as written above and explained here
http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t...
you can eather use a new metadata field or even use the "genre" field, just enter multiple things in there like: "rock, alternative, male singer" for example for some R.E.M. songs, or "worldmusic, cuban, son, male singer" in the genre field for compay segundo songs.
and with a search you can find all genres with rock,
or all genres with rock AND alternative,
or all songs with rock OR male singers in the genre (so R.E.M. and compay segundo would be played)
it works well, it is just an awful, time consuming work to write all that stuff in the foobar search field everytime...
@all
how about naming it not "tags" or "labels"?
why not find a new name for it, espacially songbird related.
for example call it "chirps" or something like that? ("tone of chirp"... any ideas???)-

Marcus replied on March 27, 2009 12:56 to the question "Listen to Last.fm radios" in Songbird:
I just installed nightly buid Songbird 1.2.0 and reinstalled ALL Add-ons.
And for some to me unknown reason it shows my "recently played" correct.
Didn't do this before...
nice job!!!
But the link when i click on the title/artist in the controlpanel still is not working!
only leads to the now playing last.fm radio station, not to the actual now playing artist.
Marcus replied on March 27, 2009 10:07 to the idea "Mutiple Library Management" in Songbird:
Ok, I habe similar Problem.
Did that Profile thing (one could have mentioned that neither Firefox nor songbird are allowed to run when accessing the profile manager)
But it is not really an "easy to use" thing...
QUESTION:
can the profile manager be integrated in Songbird somehow? or at least the ability to kind of "hot swap" between profiles with a little button or?
And to overtake the installed add ons from another profile easily by just clicking one button?
But still: for me it would be better to have several libraries in the left pane
Marcus reported a problem in Songbird on March 27, 2009 08:46:
re-edited ID3 Tags, now library shows only empty fieldsI wanted to synchronize ID3 data (after a lot of re-editing, mainly "genre"),
tried it with Media Monkey: I said "synchronize ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags"
I-Tunes shows everything perfectly (but I don't like it)
WMP has no Problems, but does not show the changes I made.
Songbird has a big Problem: the whole library is empty.
Well not really empty: there are hundreds of lines in the view, but all fields are empty.
And I can't delete them.
Everytime I click on them I get error Message (see below).
Re-importing the Music Folder is not working, it does not add anything.
And after 45min of searching here i still don't know how to reset my Songbird library.
(Sometimes I want back the times of Paperback User Manuals!!!)
WinXP SP3

too late, I can't edit any more...
just had another Idea for the "Swarm of Birds"
the Swarm of birds is ordered in an alphabetical way, and with the scroll wheel from mouse or with a scrollbar the fly by, from 123 over hij to xyz.
here a little pic:
first scrollbar very left, second scrollbar very right.
at the bottom: AND/OR switch and a list of selected labels

After Testing the functionality in foobar2000
(see http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t...)
I got a new Idea:
when selecting several lablels it is also possible to link them with an "OR" search Phrase: so all options above need a button to switch between
"AND" (all selected labels must be in the tag-field) and
"OR" (either of the selected labels must be in the tag-field)
Marcus replied on March 26, 2009 16:23 to the idea "Last.fm-like multiple tag system" in Songbird:
Yep, I just tested Foobar2000
it is not such a nice and easy to use player, and lacks some other things too.
But it is possible to do what (at least I) want:
either create a new field in the tag (I called it "LABELS") or just use the old "genre" field.
Whatever way: it works, just change "genre" in the text below with "labels":
I got a Electropop Album, that is in German and sung by a female.
the old Genre was "Electropop" now i just enriched this by "German" and "Female Singer" (Genre = "Electropop, German, Female Singer")
in search field I just enter:
"genre HAS Electropop" - I get all songs containing Electropop in genre (even if there are more entries in it, like "Electropop, Instrumental")
"genre HAS German AND genre HAS Electropop" - I get all songs that have both in the genre description
"genre HAS German OR genre HAS Electropop" guess what i get...
SO IT IS WORKING
But I don't want to write search phrases all the time...
I want it the way I described it here:
http://getsatisfaction.com/songbird/t...
