Hi MockY -
We don't make the packages on Getdeb; I'd recommend downloading our installer from our website. If you're feeling brave, you can try the latest stable beta. Some add-ons, like iPod support, are available in the add-ons directory on that page. I believe that LyricMaster has been updated to accommodate 1.4.
Hope that helps!

Mari replied on November 24, 2009 22:40 to the problem "Songbird themes stopped work on Win 7 resizing issues" in Songbird:
Hi pwk -
Unfortunately, Windows 7 is still technically unsupported. We haven't had the time or resources to fully test on it and so cannot guarantee that everything will work properly. Having to delete your profile is an understandably frustrating work-around, but I cannot think of any other way to make it work. Apologies!
As for the issue with resizing, do you have the Morning Peeps add-on installed? Otherwise, I'd recommend disabling your other add-ons one at a time to see if one of them is causing the issue. If it doesn't, please open a new topic. ^_^
Hope that helps!
Andrew Luecke's reply to "why wont songbird rip cds and title the tracks like itunes or windows media player?" was just promoted to the most useful! Mari and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
A comment on the question "How do you mount an MTP device?" in Songbird:

Thanks so much for your kind words! ^_^ I'll pass them along to the devs.
As for the memory-usage issue, there is a GetSat topic and a bug, if you would like to be able to follow the progress on either.
As for the issue of text files in the library, I think something similar was logged in bugzilla, but can't find it right now. If you happen across it, feel free to add your comments, along with your OS and version of Songbird.
Thanks again for the feedback, and we're glad to have you in the flock! ^_^ – Mari, on November 24, 2009 19:22

You're welcome! And any assistance with device sync is appreciated, though I think the rest of the community would best appreciate someone working on the iPod add-on. We open-sourced it earlier this year, but it doesn't look like anyone has done much with it lately. That said, any and all help is always appreciated. ^_^
Thanks in advance!

Mari replied on November 23, 2009 21:36 to the question "How do you mount an MTP device?" in Songbird:
Hi all -
If you're using the 1.2 release of Songbird, MTP should be working..... You can check by going to Tools > Add-Ons; it should be in the list. However, there have been a number of issues with syncing to devices (both MTP and MSC), some of which have been fixed in later builds. If you're willing to try a reasonably-stable beta, you can use build 1332. Please note, though, that you'll have to download the add-ons from that page as well!
Hope that helps!

We've logged bug 17273 to cover this issue. The problem is that it's a huge amount of work, and we just don't have the time for it yet. If you'd like to keep up-to-date with the work that's happening, though, you can add yourself to the CC list for it. (Go to the "people" box in the upper right hand corner of the bug, add your email in the "add cc" box, scroll down and hit commit.)
Mari replied on November 23, 2009 20:58 to the question "how to get songbird to play a song when clicking on music file" in Songbird:
Hi Zovar and rebelboy -
Could you please let me know what OS and version of Songbird you're using? And could you please provide a detailed set of instructions to reproduce this issue? I haven't seen it on either the Windows or Mac machines that I'm using here in the nest, but perhaps only because I'm not doing exactly the same thing.

1.4 isn't out, but the 1332 build that I linked to is a (reasonably) stable beta. It's not perfect, but we've worked out a lot of the kinks involving music management.
I wouldn't recommend deleting your current profile, but you can just create a new profile (don't launch Songbird after the install - run the Profile Manager). There are instructions & info available on the First Aid page. As long as you don't enable music management on your new profile, Songbird will not copy the files. If you use the Import Media option in the File menu, or the Watchfolder setting, it will simply be aware of where the files are without moving or copying them.
Hope that helps!

Mari replied on November 20, 2009 22:25 to the question "Songbird does not react on "Enter" or double click correctly" in Songbird:
Hi Horst -
There are known issues with updating your profile; I'd recommend creating a new one in version 1.2 and seeing if that helps. (Don't delete your old one, though!) Alternatively, you can also download build 1332, which is the latest stable beta.
Also, what OS are you running on?
Hope that helps...
Mari replied on November 20, 2009 22:23 to the problem "last played not getting updated" in Songbird:
Hi Scott -
What version of Songbird are you using? We've done a lot of updates to metadata editing, so I'd recommend using build 1332. There are compatible add-on versions available there, too.
Hope that helps...
Mari replied on November 20, 2009 22:10 to the problem "Songbird freezing all the time" in Songbird:
Hi JF Bernier -
Just wondering what version of Songbird you're using. We did have several fixes merged into a recent trunk build, so I'd recommend downloading build 1332. There are compatible add-on versions available there, too.
Other than that, my guess is that you've got a large library.... which we know has a tendency to be frustratingly slow. (This topic is the repository for those comments.)
Hope that helps....

A network drive was going to be my next question! I'd recommend copying the offending track to your local drive to see if the "muting" still happens.
Since the error is coming from the Last.fm add-on, you might also want to try disabling that. There might be something going on with trying to use the network both to scrobble and play the track? I'm just guessing here, though.
If none of this helps, the only other thing I can think of would be to file a bug and wait for an engineer to have time to take a look at it, unfortunately.

Got it. Was just confused.
I'd recommend opening the Error Console (in the Tools menu) and seeing if anything shows up there when the sound cuts out. It seems very strange for there to be no error dialog of any sort.
Hm. If you let the track finish in silence, does the sound return for the next track or is that one "muted" too? Also, does this happen on the same files all the time? (My guess is no, because that would be too easy. -_^ )
