And then there's Pavatar - I like that a lot better than Gravatar, because it's not tied to an email address (of which I have an endless variety). Anyway, if you want a better chance of people having an avatar at all, you could add that to the list.-

Marjolein Katsma shared an idea in Wakoopa on November 01, 2008 14:42:
An icon for apps without an iconCurrently we see a black circle with a white star for applications that Wakoopa doesn't have an icon for. Some of these can be "solved" by extracting an icon and submitting it, but some applications simply do not have an icon.
It would be nice if we could have a specific generic icon for that situation ("has no icon"), to visually distinguish it from "icon unknown".
(One example I have is sync.exe, a little Windows utility from (originally) Sysinternals that flushes all disk writes. And more of their utilities don't actually have icons: they're designed to be small and functional, not pretty. :))
Marjolein Katsma reported a problem in Wakoopa on November 01, 2008 14:33:
Another mis-identificationA little while ago I suddenly found "Wesabe Desktop Uploader" in my usage list.
I added a comment for the program (I had never even heard of "Wesabe"!), but I'm now fairly sure that what it actually was was Zazzle Uploader. The file name is Uploader.exe, and its internal description is "Zazzle Desktop Uploader"; internal name and original name are also "Uploader.exe", and product version is 1.0.1.18245.
It shows as only a few second's usage, but that is because it doesn't actually run on my computer: it immediately exits with an error. Given this, and the short usage time, I'm 99.99% sure the actual program used was indeed Zazzle Uploader instead of Wesabe Desktop Uploader.-

@mdy are you doing customer relations for Twitter now? :p – Marjolein Katsma, on September 08, 2008 18:11

Posting a note in one or even some of the threads about the problems being addressed, but not all, is still a major FAIL.
Surely it's part of Crystal's job to keep track of those things and connect back to us? Not doing so just continues the impression we might as well be talking to a blank wall - all that comes back is maybe a faint echo. :(

And why isn't this posted to the respective threads about these problems right here on GetSatisfaction?
Ignoring active threads about problems when those problems are being addressed or even solved, and instead starting a whole new one, is not the way to handle it.
It would seem Twitter (collective) still has a lot to learn about customer relations.

ROFL! Finally some light relief in this thread (yes, very clever of GS to auto-close tags). Alas, we're all waiting, and the search suggestion doesn't make much sense. Meanwhile I'm trying bloglines to subscribe to feeds for my most important followees........... – Marjolein Katsma, on August 08, 2008 18:00

"anyone doing ANYTHING about this" - I doubt it, to be honest. It might have been solved as soon as the bug was *introduced* but it seems Twitter just doesn't know what they did when, develops in a production environment, and uses us as guinea pigs. Too few people are having this problem, so other things are probably more sexy to work on. If they *really* were working on this, there wold be updates, no? – Marjolein Katsma, on August 02, 2008 05:12-

Well, that was a nice theory - and it's just been dispoved. I've been keeping a very close eye on my timeline to watch my latest followee stream scroll off, fully expecting paging to stop working again after that.
It didn't!
So, it seems that - at least for me - the paging ("Older") problem is finally solved. Thanks, Twitter!
Now go and solve the following/followee problem already - we're pitching tents for all the refugees on identi.ca! (Which is where I mostly live already....)
