Mark replied on May 22, 2008 11:47 to the problem "Blog posting job - always times out" in Gnolia:
The problem could be due to a number of things.
I've noticed that my site doesn't serve web pages in a consistent manner. Sometimes its quick, other times it can time out. This is probably due to the web host.
Does your web host do daily backups or anything else that might slow down your site?
What blogging engine do you use? I've spotted a few timeouts with my engine and some blogging clients when the XML-RPC call or response was not valid or unexpected.-

Blog Posting Jobs - Last Attempt Field includes dateHi, I've been using the blogging tools for a few days now and all appeared to be working fine. Thanks for creating them.
I visited my website today to find that I did not have a post. I know this occurs when there are no new bookmarks. The thing is that I did add two new bookmarks.
I looked at my ma.gnolia blogging tools page to see if the job ran ok. It reports that the last attempt was ok. Thats fine but it doesn't say when the last attempt was made so I'm not sure if it has attempted to blog the new bookmarks.
Would it be possible to display when the last attempt was made as well as if it was successful please?
A nice little history log of this information would be great. I have a daily job but might not be able to check the results daily.
Thanks,
Mark.
Mark replied on May 14, 2008 18:05 to the idea "Blogging Tools - multiple categories" in Gnolia:
Thanks for the response Todd.
Part of the Blogging APIs you have implemented allow for multiple categories to be assigned to a post.
Being able to assign multiple categories to a post is very useful. A post may relate to more than one category, e.g. bookmarks, social networking. With multiple categories assigned to a post a visitor to your site can navigate and find relevant posts more easily. How would you find a post related to social networking if it was only assigned to the category bookmarks?
I've yet to find a blogging client that doesn't support multiple categories.
In the blogging engine I'm working on, categories and tags are the same thing. I was just hoping to use tags but the blogging APIs I'm using do not support this, just categories. An API is just an interface to a site engine, how the engine interprets the data passed in through the API is up to it.
I have to admit, I'm not too fussed about #2, it would just be nice to tag a bookmark and have the post match this information. I can get around this by using multiple blogging jobs that filter the bookmarks and assign the correct category. Also, I'm not too sure what the other blogging engines would do if they met a category that was not in their system. Mine creates a new category on the fly, others should ignore the category but this might not be the case. Worst case is that they would reject the post.
Back to point #1, I actually use categories to control access to the post. I have a set of normal categories, i.e. film, and a set of special categories, i.e. -public. Without one of the special categories, the post is considered to be in draft and will only appear on the main sub-domain. I can code around this limitation/feature by using the APIs publish flag. I'm having to code around a few blogging clients as it is ;-)
Thanks for listening,
Mark.
Mark replied on May 14, 2008 11:58 to the question "How do I find my blog's API Endpoint?" in Gnolia:
Perhaps ma.gnolia could look into using RSD
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Really_S...
http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/blogs/ge...
I've not looked into this in too much detail yet but its something I'll probably add to my blogging engine in the future.
Failing that, the ma.gnolia blogging client could try to work out the blog's API endpoint from the blog url. Most engines have a default setting, e.g. <site>/xmlrpc.php. There are a number of blogging clients that do this in addition to allowing the user to specify the endpoint.</site>

Blogging Tools - multiple categoriesThanks for creating the Blogging Tools. I've found them really useful.
1. Would it be possible to allow posts to be created with multiple categories please?
and
2. Would it be possible to add a feature that allows the bookmark tags to be added as categories when posting?
Thanks,
Mark.

Gravatar supportDo you support gravatar (http://www.gravatar.com/) for the avatar icons?

Site Thumbnails not workingThumbnails no longer appear to be working.
For one of my bookmarks, the thumbnail image is
http://ma.gnolia.com/bookmarks/grazuz...
which gets redirected to
http://images.thmbnl.com/snapshots/20...
which then fails returning the following XML
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

This appears to be happening with all of the site thumbnails. Everything was working fine yesterday.
