Our database contains the IP address together with user numbers that can be mapped to their accounts. Generally, Wuala provides privacy, but only limited anonymity (there are no anonymous files for example). With that design principle in mind and given that ip addresses can help us (e.g. if a user creates dozens of accounts), we think logging this information is ok. With username or without (or anonymized name)? Like "Bugreport logged in with IP 123.4.5.6 from ... to ..." or "User with Hash 123456789 logged in with IP 123.4.5.6 from ... to ..."? Hash or anonymous would be fine for me but Username + IP etc. can be used to track down users too... ":-/ I'm indifferent" – Bugreport, 8 days ago

Hi, sorry for the delayed response. :) We actually keep a log of who has logged in when with what address. We do so to find out how many active users there are and to track down bugs in the Wuala network.

Wuala cannot work without one local copy of the file as maintanence is an important part of the sytem. In earlier versions you where actually keeping 2 copies, because wuala did copy each file to its folder.

If you don't see a difference to local backup, just two hints for you: "Internet" and "Fire" ;-)

But I thought Local Backup was not obligatory anymore. If Wuala still has to keep a local copy of the file for maintenance I don't see how is this any different from Local Backup.

Over the past weeks my wuala folder kept growing and now it's ~4GB, even after I clear the cache. So, what should I do?

Well, guess what, file sharing is legal in the UK, as LONG as you don't sell it for profit, Facepunch isn't selling it for profit and it's UK based, so UK law applies, ergo you can do nothing because it's perfectly legal.
