Same problem with my dv1000 that is about the same age as jewdy7's. I rarely used this computer but once a week (except when I went on trips). One day, out of the blue, it wouldn't turn on. I paid a $45 diagnostic fee to find out that the motherboard is bad! This is the first time I've ever had a motherboard go bad on a laptop; and I've owned several.

I know HP isn't obligated to do anything outside of the warranty period but it is disappointing to hear that so many people are having the same problem and HP isn't responding.
