A comment on the question "PayPal Downloads, inlcuding Fees in Money Dance" in The Infinite Kind:

Just a clarification...while their export does have a lot of missing transactions...the fees are included and could be handled in MD. I know in Quicken it handles them with a split transaction which saves me a lot of trouble having to go back and edit them to include the fee. – maryjo, on March 19, 2009 23:07

I am having a lot of problem with imports as well. It was so easy in other software I've used like Quicken, you could easily tell it is was a valid match or a new transaction. I can't seem to do this in MD and it has a tendency to then overwrite a previous transaction....even on in the very same import file (which logically would never be a match!)

I have a lot of problems with PayPal imports, their QIF file seems to often be missing transactions (any kind of refund on a transaction and it will leave it out), bank transfers, etc. as well as the fees.

Entering splits is for me the biggest issue in considering a switch from Quicken. Not only is there the lack of a memo field for each split, the way I have to enter splits takes way longer, having to click a button to add each line means having to go from keyboard to mouse and back and the window itself sizes really poorly on my screen, and I have to resize it to see all the fields. It easily takes me 3-4 times longer to do a split than in Quicken and at the end I *still* don't have all the information I need due to the lack of the memo column.

When adding transactions to a batch, the links at the top of the Account Details don't seem to do anything other than pop up a window asking if I want to navigate away with unsaved changes. It would be nice if clicking on Fund for instance, popped up a window where you could add a new Fund to the system. Also, when clicking Adding New Line, it often adds two lines, instead of one.

Not necessarily from the family profile page...that page I think should just have a direct link to add a new person to the family. But if you go into Ministry, your choices are Create a Family or View People. I'd prefer that first button to be Add a Person (or make it an additional button) and then when you click that, be given the option to Create New Family or Add to an Existing Family. Basically, it's more user-friendly to give them the most common action they will be using (adding people) and then step them through the process, versus making them having to find the right location by drilling down through several screens to get there, as it currently does. Alternatively, have it as a new option when viewing the list of People.

What would make the most sense to me would be to simply have an "Add Person". Then when you click that, have a selection to Add to Existing Family" or Create New Family.

Yup, that was it. I had a google toolbar that was doing it. I don't use its form features, so turning that off cleared it up.

Suggestion for adding people

It seems a bit odd to me that from the People page there is no way to add a new Person....nor is there a direct link on a family page to add a Person either, you have to open up the search first, in order to find a link to add someone. Since there doesn't seem to be any other link for adding a person, not sure what the point of having to open the search window is. I also couldn't find any place to add new users to the system or change the password, is that even available?

When using Firefox 3, the login box has white text on yellow...it's pretty much invisible!
