matthewcornell shared an idea in Second Gear on May 01, 2008 13:04:
What Today needs to be ultra-useful!Just played with it for a few minutes. Great idea, great potential. From a GTD perspective, it could be a requirement (see my other comment). However, the following would need to change, IMHO. Sorry if these are already there.
o Vertical space is wasted. To fix this: 1. More compact list (shorter items). The current item size is far too large for someone who has many tasks/events. They should be in a more traditional small list format, e.g., the Finder's size. 2. Get rid of the two items at the top "Today is [date]" and "[date]" and put them in the menubar.
o Support deleting as an alternative to checking, or make checking delete the item. This is a work-around to the iCal bug: "Delete items after __ days" is broken.
o Group items by calendar, and sort calendars same as in iCal.
o Natural language input. the Quicksilver iCal plugin does this, including handling "fri at 2pm" and "4/5 3p-5p meet bob". Extremely important for rapid capture. Saves many keystrokes.
Thanks for the nice program!

The role of Today is clear to me: iCal does not have a single "mission control" view that shows events and tasks in a list. As a practitioner (and teacher) of GTD-like methods, this is a crucial limitation. Today *could* fill that need. However, as it is it's not there yet. (Suggestions coming in a minute.)
The menu idea wouldn't work for me - too many tasks.
