That's because you probably didn't read the instructions. ;-) You're most likely using PHP 4, but the second bullet point under 'Minimum System Requirements' lists PHP 5.1.0 as the lowest supported version.
If you have the option of toggling between PHP 4 and 5, turn PHP 5 on and see if that helps (it should).

Matt Jacob replied on September 12, 2009 00:19 to the question "how can i get ping.fm widget in my website?" in Ping.fm:
Can you give us a little more info about your site?
Is it running any server-side software? (Java, .NET, Python, PHP, ColdFusion, etc.)
Are you currently using any kind of blogging engine or CMS platform? (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, etc.)
I'll give you more information when I know more about your setup. :)-

Matt Jacob replied on August 25, 2009 22:56 to the question "How do I get ping.fm posts to show up on a php web page?" in Ping.fm:
Well, the example code is just that---an example. IIRC, the example code just fires off an email when a ping comes through. That's obviously not ideal, unless you simply want an email archive of all your pings.
You'll need some form of persistent storage to store and retrieve your pings at a later time (database, flat file, etc.). If you have particularly heavy traffic to your site, you might even want to think about caching your pings in a more optimized format for quick display.

Hi there, Real Estate Finance Expert (if that's your real name):
I've created a WordPress plugin to do just what you're asking. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Matt Jacob replied on July 15, 2009 17:30 to the question "Newbie wonders about updating statuses from Twitter directly?" in Ping.fm:
Right.
Think of it as a hub and spoke model, where Ping.fm is the hub and all your social networking sites are the spokes. Or maybe it would be more helpful to think of Ping.fm as the hydro-electric power plant, and all your social networks are somewhere downstream. Or maybe... just kidding. :-)
But yeah, you post to Ping, and it posts to everything else. Not the other way around. However, there are many ways to post to Ping, including email, SMS, IM, web, and 3rd-party apps. Lots of possibilities.
Hope that helps!
Matt
