Right.

Think of it as a hub and spoke model, where Ping.fm is the hub and all your social networking sites are the spokes. Or maybe it would be more helpful to think of Ping.fm as the hydro-electric power plant, and all your social networks are somewhere downstream. Or maybe... just kidding. :-)

But yeah, you post to Ping, and it posts to everything else. Not the other way around. However, there are many ways to post to Ping, including email, SMS, IM, web, and 3rd-party apps. Lots of possibilities.

Version 1.2.1 of my WordPress plugin for Ping.fm was released today, and you should totally upgrade if you haven't yet. If you're still using 1.1.0, the latest releases have added a lot of shine and polish to the total package.

Coming up next: pictures posted from Ping.fm can optionally be sucked down into the native WordPress photo/media gallery. It's gonna be suh-weeeeet!

Note 1: This has nothing to do with WordPress.com blogs. It's only for self-hosted WordPress blogs (where you run WP on your own server).

Note 2: This plugin is not to be confused with the PingPressFM plugin. Mine uses Ping.fm's Custom URL feature to go from Ping to your blog. The other plugin essentially works in reverse.

Hey there, I'm the developer of that plugin, and I haven't heard of anyone having problems. Is everything working OK now, or are you still having problems?

The PHP requirement was changed from PHP 4 to PHP 5 a few releases ago, so that might have been the source of your problems. But if you're still running PHP 4, you've got bigger problems to worry about than plugin incompatibilities. ;-)

You'll have to take it up with the sites you're posting to. They parse the message text and try to pick out URL patterns to turn them into links automatically.

It seems like this issue isn't just limited to Palm Pres anymore. I attached a picture from my Gmail account a few minutes ago, and it didn't make it through. The file size of that picture was 1.5M.

I was able to send a picture from Gmail earlier today that worked fine, but its file size was only 866K. That seems consistent with my earlier theory that images greater than about 1M aren't getting through. It might just be a fluke, and I haven't done enough testing to confirm it, but it sure seems like it.

This isn't a huge problem, of course, but I'm gonna hold off posting photos until it's fixed. I end up looking stupid when I describe something in a picture that doesn't exist.

This isn't entirely true, but I've been having some issues myself. My first picture attachment went through just fine, but I've tried 3 since then that haven't worked.
