If possible, it'd be awesome to have KLICKflix or Ortlieb-style quick release systems on them.

A lot of rear red lights have a vertical clip in the back that slides onto that loop. Not all, but because a lot of rear touring trucks, commuter backpacks and messenger bags, and other accessories have this loop, more lights are coming with that clip.

If you need a new rear light that works with it, I recommend the Planet Bike Super Flash (because it's super mega bright) or the Blackburn Mars 3.0 (because it has side yellow lights too). Both will work with your flasher loop.

Score, I hope it works out. I love extracycle, but I dunno if I would want to hack my messenger into a pannier, I don't want a stiff backing on my messenger, and I don't like saggy panniers. But if it were a permanent fix, maybe I'd get a new messenger just to pannierize....
