I guess I found out the reason of "Please enable cookies and try again" error with Firefox.
Pownce uses Google Analytics (GA) for web statistics. To enable this feature, a remote JavaScript file is loaded ("http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js"). Urchin (the software behind GA) basically sets 4 different cookies. (named: __utma, __utmb, __utmc, __utmz).
After the gory details, here comes the root cause. Two different very popular Firefox add-ons, with specific configurations can block Google Analytics. The first one is Ad Block Plus with 'ABP Tracking Filter' subscription (which barres the downloading of Urchin JavaScript) and the other one is CustomizeGoogle add-on configured to block sending cookies to GA (Tools -> CustomizeGoogle Options -> Privacy -> Don't send any cookies to Google Analytics)
Although the client could set session cookie named "sessionid", Pownce seems to assert Google Analytics cookies first.
That's why the login window spits out "Please enable cookies and try again" error I guess.
This's an ugly problem though. If my theory about checking Urchin cookies (__utmX) is true then I kindly request the reasoning behind this assertion.
Possible workaround for this problem:
Short answer:
Don't mess with Google Analytics. Leah loves it and you're not allowed in without it.
Long answer:
Disable the particular Ad Block filters which block GA. Here are the lines from my set of subscriptions
Lines from ABP Tracking Filter Subcription:
/urchin.js
.google-analytics.
/__utm.js
/__utm.gif?
Lines from Filter von Dr. Evil Subscription:
.google-analytics.com/
After fixing Ad Block filters, disable "Don't send any cookies to Google Analytics" option of CustomizeGoogle add-on.

I came here in search of a solution to the same problem, and Moggymania's solution worked: I had to allow cookies for both pownce.com and www.pownce.com. Awesome.

Update: I came up with a possible solution, it's working for me! :-D
Go into Firefox's "Tools" menu, and select Options... In the "Privacy" area, look for the Cookies section, and select Exceptions. Add http://pownce.com and set it to Allow (as in "always"), then do the same for www.pownce.com -- As soon as I did that, I went back to Pownce's website, and it finally let me actually log in.
Interestingly, before I tried this trick, a search of my current cookies revealed nothing for Pownce.com, even though I have Firefox set to accept all cookies without asking me. The Exceptions area didn't have it listed, either, so I have no idea why Firefox wasn't letting me log in.

I've been getting the same, except the redirection is going the other way (from http://www.pownce to http://pownce) for me. I don't have any extensions that customize Google or mess with cookies, so those aren't the problem in my case. Using Firefox 2.0.0.11 nightly on WinXP, not having any other issues.

I get the same errors. Firefox redirects to www.pownce.com when I try to log in at pownce.com and IE stays on pownce.com (no www.), so I have to wonder whether it's the browser or the server adding "www." to the host name. The www.pownce.com should not be able to retrieve cookies for pownce.com (without the "www.").

Update!: Okay, check this out....
If you download the Pownce desktop software -- http://pownce.com/download/ -- and if your default web browser is Firefox, AND, you hit the "Home" button on the bottom of the Pownce desktop software, AND THEN, try to log into Pownce with Firefox....you'll get in.
I was able to log into Pownce that way with Firefox. All Addons "abled".
Go figure.

maxer asked a question in Pownce on January 09, 2008 16:52:
I know its been mentioned before, but what are Pownce's largest competitors at this point?Pownce seems to have incorporated the usefullness of 37 signals into their framework as a business app tool, but with the stream it is more similar to micro blogging sites such as: tumblr, jaiku & twitter. Would it be safe to say Pownce is a microblogging site as well as a file sharing app?
