    Sigma lenses lose paint!
All of the Sigma lenses I own have peeling paint! I've had two now, and the paint peels after about six months, even if you take care of your equipment!

Eric, that's not the point. If IBM is in the business of keeping customers, they could do something, even if it's just replacing the board. It's not like they don't refurbish those and sell them again. A replacement that's approximately equal in terms of cost then would suffice... – mdurisseau, on July 25, 2008 14:15

A positive experience with Canon customer service...
I wanted to share my experience with Canon Customer Service. I am a newspaper editor and professional photographer. I am also a member of Canon Professional Services.
To make a long story short, I bought a Canon 1D Mark III digital camera from a retailer in May of 2007. After working with it for more than a year, and dealing with sub-par performance, I wrote a letter to the President and CEO of Canon in February.
The case was passed on initially to Eric Michelson, then was taken over by Mike Schimmel.
I asked for a replacement body; failing that, a repair that would fix my camera.
After sending images from my camera, they asked me to send it and some sample images on DVD to New York, at their expense. They supplied me a loaner body, which was not as good as what I had.
I got my original body back, and it was, honestly, marginally better, but not what one would expect when spending $4500 or so, and having to make a living.
I again wrote to the President and CEO in July, this time, asking for a replacement body. I sent my old body to Canon, and was sent a brand new camera. It turned out that it was worse than any of the other bodies that I had!!
Mr. Schimmel had me send that body back, and in turn sent me a loaner. Once I saw the images from this body, I knew I had a keeper, so I asked Mr. Schimmel in a phone conversation if I could keep it.
Earlier this week, July 23 to be exact, Mr. Schimmel let me know that I could keep the body I had, and we could close the ticket.
At this moment, I am satisfied that Canon has taken care of me, though it took some time and perserverance.
Thanks to Mr. Schimmel and Canon.

I have, Eric...at least once. Not only that, with a no more than 5 business day turnaround...and what you're saying about IBM not being able to exchange this computer is inaccurate...did you not read Mark's post? "...
If your warranty coverage has elapsed, I would suggest you visit the Lenovo support site at www.lenovo.com/support and put in your 4 digit model type, then select the part list and find the FRU number for the system board of your particular sub model. You can purchase a system board from IBM by calling 800-388-7080..." – mdurisseau, on July 25, 2008 00:24

    Hi, Mark,

That's not good enough...you didn't acknowledge that this set of machines (T4x) had and continues to have this issue. I have a T20 that has been out of production way before the T40, and it's still working fine! I have checked the 'boards' you've mentioned (at least some of them) and all of them mention that it's a known issue, and the only way out is to spend what a new machine would cost to fix what I have (your first suggestion), or get a heat gun and resolder the video chip back. The first item is unacceptable, period. IBM can do better than that, surely. The second one is one I have considered, but I go back to IBM can do better than that.
If this is an ongoing issue, I would be buying system boards ad infinitum, don't you think? – mdurisseau, on July 23, 2008 20:32

Why can't I get anymore Nike Free 5.0 V2? Will there be a shoe that good again?

Why do I have to use a machine with a KNOWN defect?
I have a T40 with a KNOWN video issue...the video chip comes partially unsoldered, which creates a crash...I would just be happy with an exchange. I have owned a 701C, a 560, a 570, a 600, a T20, and now this T40. This is the only other machine that has had any kind of issue, the other being the 560. IBM has been good enough in the past to take care of this. Can anyone do that for me now?
