Jonathan Weber replied on June 07, 2009 07:14 to the question "Which graphic library is used for the Songbird UI?" in Songbird:
Thanks for all the suggestions and explainations! I think i got the point, and I think I will keep using Qt. If looked around a bit at Qt projects and saw, that this library is also very flexible in issues about look and feel of the UI; You're also able to use Stylesheets to design your Qt User Interface. This makes it really unneccessary to use the XUL engine to design an UI like the one used in Songbird...
What I also found out during my search is, that allmoast all really good graphic librarys are published under the GPL and you have to provide the Source-Code to your projects. In the XUL engine this will be kind of needless to ask, because Mozilla is known for the free code. Qt sells the possibility to sell project containing their code; for around 1900€ your allowed to distribute your software for a fee...
So I think, even if I have to publish all my code, I will keep using Qt...
Thanks for all the great help again!

Autohide for the Mini PlayerI first saw a similar feature in Winamp a few years ago and It was one of the features I used most in it.
I was able to activate a Mini-Player, very similar to the one provided in Songbird through View->Mini Player. But the Player in Winamp was only displayed if you moved the mouse to the screen edge the player was aligned to and hiding directly after you moved the mouse away from this edge. This was very helpful and a beautiful way to control media playback without opening the heavy media-player window.
Could you implement the focus and hiding feature to the miniplayer, maybe an entry like the "Keep in Foreground", just with "Autohide"?
Thanks in advance,

What about a Songbird coffee mug? Many great software projects like Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird and so on provide coffee mugs of their products with a logo and the software name on it.
In the Songbird store I only found t-shirts and pullovers; only the stickers as not wearable articles. I would like to buy some Songbird products except clothes...
I hope you can share this idea and like it :)

Mefisto asked a question in Songbird on June 06, 2009 09:59:
Which graphic library is used for the Songbird UI?I'm currently programming with C++ and Qt as graphic library. Qt is easy to use and easy to learn and best if you're new in development stuff. You can also configure Qt's interfaces a lot to fit your imaginations.
But I think Songbird has the absolutly best User Interface of all software I know; the style, the colors and the size of text, buttons and the whole window is really great. So I'm wondering which graphic library was used to create the User interface... Can someone help me with this issue?
Thanks in advance,
Jonathan

Tag Songs with describing adjectives and upluad to a central database. What about tagged music listening? What I mean is a field in the music library few like the ones for the ratings, in that you may enter a few describing words for the song, like "romantic, slow, fast, etc.etc."... And there should be a possibility to filter the music library for given tags later. Often the Genre doesn't really help me because i can't give all the single songs a special genre and in one album there are often different types of music. This concret description could provide a good way to REALLY sort music and filter it for "feelings"... Another idea was that all the entered tags could be uploaded to a central database in the web from where all people could download the taggs for their onw music. Like the automatic cover fetching from amazon.
And to make this clear: I don't mean adding music genres, i really mean adding adjectives that describe the content and the feelings of the song!
I think this wouldn't be a hard job and i would be very happy to see something like this.
The other thing is: As i can see, no other media player has this feature right now, that would be a great possibility to be one step infront of all the other players ;)
