Well, you're up 29 spots over yesterday, so that's working fine. Re. the PR score of 1, that has nothing to do with us -- I don't know exactly how they scale engagement points into their algorithm, but I'll see what I can find out. – Melanie Baker, on December 15, 2009 18:04
Melanie Baker replied on December 15, 2009 17:51 to the problem "Request to move my blog address" in PostRank:
Ok, the feed itself was actually fine -- the same one on your site was in our system. However, I also saw that there were three feeds in our system for your blog.
I've updated the displayed URL for the right one: http://www.postrank.com/feed/89bcc940... and have started the process to remove the two duplicates. (This won't touch the other two feeds you have in the system for Flickr and Slideshare.)

Unfortunately it's not as easy as just asking... someone why your blog ranking did what it did. Do you recall approximately where your blog is on the list? I missed it in a quick scan, but if I can see where it is and if it's done much up/down, that might help.
I do know that the rankings are updated daily, so while you did have a lot of engagement on that example post, it was also five days ago. That said, the list does also function with a 30-day sliding scale, so, for example, if your ranking went down around January 10th, it wouldn't be surprising, since the "juice" from that post would be expiring. – Melanie Baker, on December 15, 2009 14:03

Ahh, good to know. Easy to miss, but fortunately, also easy to fix. :) – Melanie Baker, on December 15, 2009 13:42
Melanie Baker replied on December 14, 2009 21:50 to the question "Using PostRank to rank blogs in AdAge" in PostRank:
Ok, I have learned much investigating this. :)
So the AdAge list is calculated in two ways: a) they update the scores daily, and b) there's a rolling 30-day window (so, for example, one totally viral post won't skew your scores forever, and neither will a bad patch of little engagement).
Basically, just over a month ago now (so just fell off your 30-day section) you had a big engagement spike. Looks like the cause of that engagement was a bit you (you had a post that got a bunch of comments), but more noticeably, it looks like it was on our end -- we'd had to briefly turn off comments analysis, and when we turned it back on you received the engagement from a lot of comments received on recent posts. You'll see it if you look at your engagement report from November 13th.
So, in good news, things should be more even now, and that engagement spike would have affected everyone, not just you, so all relevant blogs will have "settled" since.

Thanks for the heads up, Dennis. I am seeing the Delicious metrics now, but a number of others are missing. I do know we're currently working on improving the Reddit and Twitter analysis, since there've been issues. Posterous is one we don't track yet. – Melanie Baker, on December 14, 2009 14:31

According to our tracker, this one was assigned a couple of days ago, and is currently in progress. Once it's resolved I'll let you know. – Melanie Baker, on December 13, 2009 16:53

Hrm, looks like the comments problem the other day ate my reply here, too. I've asked the guys to take a look at your feed, in the mean time, could you send me a screenshot of your blog showing up as Unindexed? Helps me make sure we're looking at/referring to the same things -- melanie@postrank.com. – Melanie Baker, on December 12, 2009 00:32
Melanie Baker replied on December 12, 2009 00:29 to the idea "Option to filter the RSS feed content?" in tweetminer:
Users can just sign up, import their feeds, filter them, then export them out to TweetMiner. They just need to know it exists. (Which is something I work on every day...) :)
If you actually wanted to build the functionality into the app, a la http://www.postrank.com/developers/ma... then there's a bit more work involved (obviously).

Option to filter the RSS feed content?I am admittedly biased, but for those users who don't necessarily want the whole firehose from an RSS feed, some level of filtering might be valuable, by the amount of engagement the content's received, etc.: http://www.postrank.com/postrank -- that's how our Twitter Newsroom works: http://www.postrank.com/twitter.

Hi Chris -- I'm afraid sometimes there is a 3-week backlog. :) I'm told it's in normal priority queue (it's something that only affects one user, and nothing's actually broken), but Joey said he'd look into it today for us. I'll let you know when things are updated. – Melanie Baker, on December 08, 2009 14:52
A comment on the problem "PR subscribes to different feed than the imported URL" in PostRank:
My apologies -- this fell off my radar. Looking at the feed, it looks broken at the source: http://rssfeeds.webmd.com/rss/rss.asp...\x3dRSS_PUBLIC -- if you look at that in a browser, there isn't really anything there.
You're trying to subscribe to the main feed from the site? This might be what you're looking for: http://www.postrank.com/feed/a6b94604... – Melanie Baker, on December 07, 2009 20:10
