phpBB forums are a lot different (phpBB is the platform that other forum is hosted on) than SocialGO forums, and it's not currently possible to have such a forum on SocialGO... you would have to host it separately.
If you wanted your network members to automatically be signed up for your forum, you would have to write a script that did this.

Hmm, that's strange. I haven't had any problems with tabs showing up when they're not supposed to. Maybe try filing a request with support to have a look at it if you can't figure it out.
Um... as for AJAX and PHP... http://www.google.com. Seriously! Everything you need to know is on the internet... I have a few books around but it's easier to find what you want on google, usually .
w3schools is really good though: http://www.w3schools.com/
I should mention for the record that I have been told that running AJAX on your network could cause conflicts, since there is AJAX running on your network, already... use at your own risk ;).
Don't forget about the Pro Services directory, too.

jorge, if your tabs and member levels are set up properly, they shouldn't show up at all unless a member is at VIP level and is logged in. I don't think you can do it automatically (like when a member pays for your service) unless it's done through the API.
As for the top 10 feature, that would also have to be done through the API. You would need to make (an) AJAX call(s) to store, retrieve, and display the data on a member's profile. It's certainly possible and wouldn't be too ridiculously tricky so long as you had some fair AJAX/PHP skills. – Aaron M, on November 13, 2009 05:13

In regards to Dingo & Shawn's suggestion about limiting HTML and/or CSS customisation options, when this is implemented, would it be possible to have it controllable by the network admin, in the same way that you can control which elements of a page members can customise through the profile designer?

Please keep comments like this to relevant topics, Glamour Club! I would appreciate it. – Aaron M, on November 13, 2009 00:34

Hi jorge...
In response to your first question, it would be an okay feature to have, good request. However, as this is not a widget that would serve the infrastructure of SocialGO, it's probably better that it be developed by a third party, in my opinion, as SG has plenty of other stuff on their plate.
As to your second request... this is easily accomplished using the member levels feature. If you have a member of level "V.I.P."
1) Set the level of the member you want to V.I.P.
2) In the layout manager, select the tab you want to be restricted, and click the "Page Settings" button.
3) Select "Visible to logged in members only." A list of user levels will appear underneath the selected radio button, which allows you to have the tab appear to only the member levels you have selected.
Finally... SG has many video tutorials on their site: make sure you check there and watch them! I believe there is a video dedicated to member levels.

Hey Julian, try using the "Search topics" option before you create something that dozens of other people have already been discussing ;)

Another suggestion for member levels would be creating the ability for us to restrict whether people can join groups or not based on their user level. For example, we'd like to use our network as a place where our coordinators and their coworkers in different cities could have a central location to access downloads and collaborate, as well as enjoying each other's company, but we don't want regular members to be able to do this. We can use groups for this, but we can't control who joins groups by user level, unless it is by invite.
I guess it would be good to only display certain groups to a designated user level.

Aaron M reported a problem in SocialGO on November 06, 2009 06:40:
Confusing Layout Manager IssueOkay, when you are adding tabs in the Layout Manager, you can add a sub-tab while you have a sub-tab selected. However, once you have initially created the tab, it doesn't show up any where in the layout manager:
However, when you have that tab selected on your network, the tab you added shows up as another sub-tab beside the current... but only if the sub-tab that was selected while creating an additional sub-tab is selected:
This creates an obvious problem: how to delete the accidentally created sub-tab of a sub-tab when it isn't accessible via the layout manager? I know it's simple to hide it using CSS, but this seems like it is a step that ought not to be necessary, in the first place.

Friends, I don't think you can expect SocialGO to be a facebook or myspace. While I like most of the features that have been suggested (except the gifts... Ning just did that and it was really annoying) SocialGO is still a young company, just now coming into their own as far as social networking goes. Be patient!
When we decided to use SocialGO as one of our social networks, we evaluated the advantages and disadvantages of a network... and your complaints are some of the things you either had considered when you used SocialGO or should have considered when you moved to SocialGO.
I honestly believe that the guys behind the scenes at SocialGO are working their hardest to provide the best product they can, but it cannot happen over night! I would encourage you to be patient and provide your feedback and suggestions in a constructive manner, as canada.rob did to begin this topic.
