That solution will work pretty well for what I need. The two things I'm missing from the solution that Merlin described are:
1) The ability to 'catch up' on what I missed while I had a friend hidden.
2) The ability to manage all traffic from a given individual with one click, instead of service by service.
Also, managing the traffic for a user by clicking on the individual post, while convenient, is not entirely obvious or intuitive. An aggregated friend list where I could view all my active and hidden friends would be swell.
