A comment on the question "Saving Echo Options" in JS-Kit:
Once you have activated the site, any changes you make will automatically be saved when you move out of the input area or exit the page. – Michael, on November 30, 2009 21:55
Michael marked one of Anna's replies in JS-Kit as useful. Anna replied to the question "left edge of REPLY text is cut-off ???".
Michael replied on November 25, 2009 17:12 to the question "left edge of REPLY text is cut-off ???" in JS-Kit:
I have avatar's set to "display:none." in the css. I had to remove the css style I was using to indent the comment (to compensate for not displaying the avatar). Now the display is fine.
For anyone following this stuff or using some of the hackcs in the skinning guide, this is the style I had to remove:
/* Compensate for removed avitar */
.jsk-ItemBody {
margin-left: -40px; /* 8px indent */
}

Michael asked a question in JS-Kit on November 25, 2009 02:40:
left edge of REPLY text is cut-off ???It appears as though something has changed in the Echo CSS but I can't put my finger on it...
When someone REPLIES to a comment, the left edge of the text is now cut off in the display. This is only on the first REPLY posted... a reply to a reply displays fine.
You can see an example on our website:

Any suggestions?
A comment on the question "Moderating Comments. Can admin function be restricted to only the webmaster?" in JS-Kit:
sorry about that... I completely forgot about the "editable" option (which is absurd, because it's one of the key features that I use in my own implementation. What was I thinking? Ugh!) – Michael, on November 23, 2009 14:32
A comment on the idea "Echo 4th display option: Collapsable div" in JS-Kit:
i haven't played with this but it seems to me that if you're good with css you could accomplish this in a couple of different ways. One would be to use nested divs calling for the comments count data in the outer div and placing the comments data itself in the nested one...
or, calling for all of the comments data in the document head (so that it loads) and then displaying it in the collapsable div.
Interesting idea... if you play with it I hope you'll share any successful examples in the skinnging guide wiki. – Michael, on November 22, 2009 15:05

A comment on the question "Moderating Comments. Can admin function be restricted to only the webmaster?" in JS-Kit:
Again - when you are logged in as an admin or moderator, you will see IP addresses and have permissions that regular users do not have. A regular visitor to the site will not see IP addresses or have any moderator permissions. – Michael, on November 19, 2009 17:57
A comment on the question "remove IP from display" in JS-Kit:
IP's can only be viewed by the signed in admin/moderator. Regular users cannot see the IP address. – Michael, on November 17, 2009 21:26
A comment on the question "Advanced Echo CSS Tricks" in JS-Kit:
See the wiki skinning guide - it's pretty easy to change labels and pre-assigned text if you know a little about using CSS and styles:

Go to www.js-kit.com
Login
after logging in you'll see navigation links, including one for DASHBOARD
Michael replied on October 19, 2009 05:27 to the question "Moderating Comments. Can admin function be restricted to only the webmaster?" in JS-Kit:
I think you're confusing the ADMINISTRATOR's ability to moderate ALL messages with the individualuser's ability to moderate only the messages they post.
The site ADMINISTRATOR can set moderation of all messages in a variety of ways using the settings in the DASHBOARD: Pre-Moderation, Post-Moderation, etc.
A user who posts a comment can delete only their own messages.
Michael replied on October 19, 2009 05:18 to the question "Moderating Comments" in JS-Kit:
Log in to www.js-kit.com.
Go to your DASHBOARD
Under the Echo section, click on MODERATION SETTINGS
then select the type of moderation you want for your site.
A comment on the problem "Comments not being emailed to the administrator" in JS-Kit:
That would depend on the moderation settings you have selected in your Echo Dashboard. In the comments section of your dashboard, select the moderation settings that you prefer - pre, post, etc. – Michael, on October 19, 2009 05:15
A comment on the problem "Comments not being emailed to the administrator" in JS-Kit:
Your website does not play nicely with Internet Explorer 8. That is not something that anyone here will likely be able to help you with.
I am an Echo user - no different than you - I have no relationship to JS-Kit. Widgets, like Echo can be installed on web sites created by other programs or systems (like Wordpress blogs, etc), including sites created on a MAC using Rpaidweaver... that does not mean that JS-Kit has any relationship with the developers of Rapidweaver. – Michael, on October 19, 2009 05:13
A comment on the problem "Comments not being emailed to the administrator" in JS-Kit:
George: you have other problems on your website that should be corrected before trying to install and use Echo. When visiting the site, (venturecompany.com/opinions/ ) it tries to automatically download software to the visitor's computer. In my case, declining that download crashed my browser (IE8).
It is never a good idea to instal a new widget or program on to a web site that is not running properly in the first place... it can only cause complications and invites frustration and errors. – Michael, on October 18, 2009 21:14
Michael replied on October 18, 2009 20:43 to the problem "Comments not being emailed to the administrator" in JS-Kit:
It does make sense - and that's exactly what it does when set-up the way it is pictured above:
[X] Enable E-Mail Notifcations
Notify participants of a comments thread when new comments are posted
Of course, as I mentioned above, Echo can only send email notifications to participants who have entered their email address when they posted a message.
Michael replied on October 18, 2009 18:30 to the question "Your service is not user friendly!" in JS-Kit:
You're right - complex widgets designed to work across a multitude of social newtworking and blogging platforms are not for people with no experience in web site design and coding. For those people, it's best to stick with the built-in features of whatever pug & play comments system is available from your host. Or hire a programmer to do the work for you and participate in a user support forum in a constructive and positive way... there are many of us here who are happy to donate our time and energy to help.
However, if you know or are willing to learn a little about CSS and HTML for page layout, and javascript for programming, then an open system like js-kit is just fantastic.
I understand your frustration - really. But expecting a company to provide customized solutions so that you can use their free (or $1/month) software is a bit out of the realm of reality, don't you think?
I love driving my own car - but wouldn't even think of trying to change the oil and filter - no less move the front seats to the back or install a sunroof! ;)
JS-kit is still a relatively new company - and the feature-set of its productcs grows and gets better every day with input from people just like you (and me). I too, hope that we will soon be able set things like colors, fonts, labels, etc. through the dashboard controls - and I bet that eventually we will be able to do just that. If you want to see features like that, then support the company that is developing the product both through suggestions/feedback and subscriptions. A $12 threat just looks silly.
A comment on the problem "Comments not being emailed to the administrator" in JS-Kit:
"But it should still send the e-mail to other participants regardless of whether or not I lost administrator status, it is not doing that!"
Echo will only send email notifications to participants who have entered their email address and selected to be notified of new messages... it is in the user's control. – Michael, on October 18, 2009 17:59
