I have a problem in that my UK Vodafone number appears to be registered already on the Twitter database. I only have one account and it certainly is not registered to my account. I have tried contacting Twitter Support 6 days ago and they show no interest in helping me. All I want is for them to reply to my question of whether they can delete my UK VF number from their database so I can register it on my own account, but they refuse to help :(

I have this problem too, yet Twitter support have shown no interest in helping me whatsoever. I am in the process of reporting them as I believe they are in breach of some regulation regarding data protection.

Michael replied on August 31, 2009 05:41 to the question "Can I deactivate my mobile number on one account and use the same number on a 2nd account?" in Twitter:

    Michael
The only way you can do that is to de-register your mobile number on the first account. I am having huge problems at the moment validating my mobile number on my account as it is, apparently, already registered to another account (I only have one account). Twitter have shown no interest in fixing this problem for me other than saying I must have that number registered on another account. They are useless.

Hi. I too have this problem when trying to register my UK Vodafone number. Oddly enough I have no problem validating my O2 number. I contacted Twitter support and they replied saying I must have that number registered to another account. Then they close the support request as solved without even waiting to see if it was solved! (it wasn't - I have no other account). So I contacted them again (6 days ago) to ask them to de-register that number from their database in case somebody else has registered it. That was 6 days ago and I have heard nothing. Twitter support are absolutely hopeless and will only attempt problems they know they can easily fix. Their approach to support requests is half-hearted and a shambles. So now I am stuck with the fact that I cannot register my UK VF number because Twitter support do not want to help.

Hi. If you go to the Twitter help home page and scroll about halfway down, you'll see an option to submit a new request for support. I think Twitter don't want people contacting them because they make it so difficult to find how to submit a request. Be warned though; they are absolutely useless. They will only address problems they know how to solve. I submitted one problem and halfway through "helping" me they gave up and will not reply to my repeated requests for help.

    can't validate my phone
    Hi

I am not sure if I am on the appropriate site but I have been trying for a week now to validate my Vodafone UK mobile number on Twitter, but each time I do it I get an error on the page stating that it was not possible to validate my number and to try again in a few minutes. Oddly enough I can validate my O2 number on Twitter with no problem, but I really need the Vodafone number registering on it. After several days of trying I contact Twitter so-called "Support".

Well day 4 of my struggle to obtain anything like a decent level of service from support on Twitter.

    Day 1: posted support request.

Day 2: Support guy gets back to me, makes a suggestion and closes the support request down without waiting to see if the problem was resolved (which it wasn't). I get back to them and tell them to open it up again and help me with my problem. Guy gets back to me, makes a few suggestions. Well, he asks me if I have any other accounts.

Day 3: Nothing heard, so I post an update requesting they get back to me. Nothing heard.

Day 4: Nothing heard. Just requested, via a new request, to state a complaint.

It seems that Twitter approach their support service in a very half-hearted manner. They make a suggestion and then consider the case closed. When it gets re-opened it seems that ask/answer a question, and then throw the support request to the bottom of the pile again. So you have to wait for it to work its way back up to the top.

Gordon Bennett! You'd think I had asked them to hand deliver me an elephant's ear in a bun!

It seems that my VF mobile number is already registered on their system so all I am asking them to do is to look on their database and if my number is registered with them, to deregister it so I can re-register it. A simple request, no? Not so judging by the amount of time it is taking them to reply.

It is possible that somebody else has registered my number on Twitter, but nobody at Twitter seem to be taking this problem seriously. I have never come across a support service quite so useless as Twitter.

Has anybody any suggestions that might help me?
