A comment on the question "Advanced lookup functionality" in I want Sandy:
Good suggestions, Kevin. I getting the feeling that Sandy's helpers don't realize just how much a problem it is not providing an option to use boolean logic on searches. I have a lot of stuff in Sandy, but it is just too difficult to extract exactly what I need when I need it. – Michael, on August 09, 2008 01:56

Oops. I just realized that the + is currently used by Sandy for tags that contain a space.
So maybe my idea needs to be modified. Or maybe the space can be encoded. A lot of other websites do that.
http://iwantsandy.com/list?tags=dry+c... (How to find "dry cleaning" now)
http://iwantsandy.com/list?tags=dry%2... (Idea for an AND search)
kevin1 replied on August 08, 2008 22:57 to the question "Advanced lookup functionality" in I want Sandy:
I agree. There should be a way to specify what tags we want to search for more precisely.
It would be great if the operators AND OR and NOT could be supported. (Maybe the symbols + and - should be used instead of words though.)
And there really should be a way to find untagged items.
Here are some ideas:
By email: (and Twitter)
> lookup @todo AND @project1
> lookup @todo AND NOT @work
> lookup dry cleaning @todo @AND @NOT @work
The "tag cloud" on Sandy's website:
Selecting both tags "project1" and "todo" currently does an OR search.
By URL:
http://iwantsandy.com/list?tags=todo,... (This currently does an OR search)
http://iwantsandy.com/list?tags=todo+... (Idea for an AND search)
http://iwantsandy.com/list?tags=todo+... (idea for an AND NOT search)
http://iwantsandy.com/list?tags= (To find items with no tags.)
(Other ideas for no tags. tags=undefined or tags=notag or tags=untagged)
By Jott:
> lookup tags todo and work
> lookup tags todo and project1 and not work
(Note: the search box on Sandy's website should not be relied on to search for tags.
Typing in "@todo" will only return those items that contain the actual text "@todo". This is usually only found in the "context" of the item. Example: "remember to buy milk @todo")
kevin1 replied on August 08, 2008 13:45 to the idea "I want to be able to specify in my email how soon before the event to be notified" in I want Sandy:
This feature was added in a recent update. See http://getsatisfaction.com/iwantsandy...
You can now use a @reminder tag to tell Sandy when you want to be reminded. After the @reminder tag, put the date you want to be reminded. The date can be fixed (like June 20) or it can be relative to the date you want to remember. (use the word "before")
You can send a message to Sandy like this:
> Remind me that my father's birthday is on April 20th, @reminder three days before.-

A comment on the question "how do i edit the context of an existing task?" in I want Sandy:
This is a good question. Editing the context in some ways is a little bit faster than editing the individual fields. In addition, editing the additional fields doesn't update the context, so it is a little weird when I look at the original context and it doesn't correspond. But those are just style complaints. At least one *definite* feature that I don't see is the ability to add a list to an entry after it has been defined. If I write a list in the entry initially I can edit it, but if I realize I need a list after the fact then I'm SOL. – Todd, on August 07, 2008 21:52

Not being able to edit the context is a problem for me too. I made a suggestion a while ago that Sandy should add an editable text area to every item. The area would originally filled with a copy of the "context", but you can edit it however you wish later on.

The other replies here are correct, but perhaps they're missing the point. If I understand you correctly, you're looking to add information to the "context" area of the thing Sandy remembered.
You can edit the "Name" of the thing easily enough. On the website, click on the item and then select "edit". To update an item by email, read Yeraze's post above.

kevin1 replied on August 03, 2008 03:07 to the problem "Forget command no longer working" in I want Sandy:
The syntax to specify a recurring event actually depends on what type of recurring event it is. If it's a daily event, then add @daily, if it's a bimonthy event, then add @bimonthly, etc.
Be sure to include the recurring event tag in order to change every future event in the series.
> forget #1 @daily
> forget #1 @bimonthly
> update #1 @monthly 5:10 pm
Of course, you can always log onto the website and edit the recurring event from there.

This problem seems to be less of a problem now as opposed to when I first started this thread six months ago. I still occasionally find that Sandy doesn't properly forget items when you respond to a numbered list and your response includes several items, e.g., f #1 5 8 9 11. Also, to forget the entire weekly sequence of items be sure to include the @weekly tag in the forget response otherwise Sandy will only forget the current item.
