"Page Regeneration" wrecks the pages Aura!Hi,
I've recently been regenerating allot of pages that either haven't ever been touched or have low quality content, but I have just noticed that this massively effects the pages Aura!
Take dot.tk for example... This was listed number 1 in the URL Shortener's list (http://www.aboutus.org/list/urlshortener) but after regenerating it into a "new style" page it dropped to number 110!
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards
Michael

Hi Ted,
Yeah, I'm not too sure how I did this in the end... I'm sure there was a major problem with creating pages using that method... Maybe the issue was that it wasn't a "new style" page.
It will definitely do for an interim fix... but I would like to see a new "manual page" form (as requested here http://gsfn.us/t/dqtq).
Kind Regards
Michael

Are Lists Getting Indexed?Hey All,
Does anybody know if lists are getting indexed by Google? ( / other competing search engines :)
Its just my list (http://www.aboutus.org/list/urlshortener) doesn't seem to be being listed!
Michael Howe replied on September 24, 2009 03:02 to the problem "How do we now search for non domain pages?" in AboutUs:
I see that this problem has been addressed now...
I do like the way that AboutUs uses a "Google" search if a non web address is entered from a domain / general / User page... But I do think that if a user enters a term from a list / topic page (i.e. /list/) it should only show lists or related topics.
Just a thought.
Kind Regards
Mike

A new manual page creation form!Ok, I have mentioned this before (http://gsfn.us/t/apzi & http://gsfn.us/t/clwn)... But is there any chance we can get a new "manual domain page" form? As the one that can be found at - http://www.aboutus.org/Special/form/f... - only creates the "old style" pages!
In a way you wouldn't even need to create a form... just a link to a "blank" new style page. (just like the one here - http://www.aboutus.org/InnocentDrinks.se)
This would then not only solve listing problems when the bot is asleep (It does seem to like a good rest!) but would also allow "redirected" pages to be listed in the circumstances where they need to be! (http://gsfn.us/t/clwn)
Kind Regards,
Michael

I'm having the same issue again when I try and list - http://twu.sh as it redirects to twilitics.com!
But as I am creating the "URL-Sortener" list I need to list "twu.sh" not twilitics.com!
Any solution on the horizon? (I wouldn't even mind if I had to manually edit the page!)

Hey Ray,
You probably haven't finished up the clean-up yet... but on the delete pages there is some overlapping of text!
"Edit | Article | History" show under the text "Warning: The page you are about to delete has a history" on the "Confirm delete" page.
Then on the last delete page the "edit" link shows under the deleted URL!

Summaries for user pages?Right, This is a very basic one... The addition of user statuses!
Replace the text "User:Michael Howe" on the user page with
"Michael Howe is [ Input field ]"
This could then be used as a place to give a brief summery of;
1) What you are currently working on
2) Who you are
3) what you are thinking...
Or
It could be opened up to other users to edit for the addition of praise!
i.e. Kristina Weis is a wonderful person! :)
If this is totally out of the question can you at least remove the "User:" text?

An integration with GetSatisfaction.com!I was just thinking of ways that we can stop all the posts on this forum from people trying to get hold of other companies... (I still don't understand how people can go to the lists section, where there are multiple websites listed, and click "feedback" thinking the message will miraculously get to the company they want!! but thats a different matter.)
So I was thinking that maybe you could team up with GetSatisfaction so that you display a "feedback" button on every page (in the contact section). This button would then be linked to the correct GetSatisfaction page (if there is one already) or the page for the user to create a new one if there isn't!
This idea helps AboutUs, by removing stupid non AboutUs questions, as well as pushing more companies to use GetSatisfaction.
Kind Regards,
Michael

New Page Layout / DesignHi AboutUs,
I really like the space-saving you did over the last few days (http://j.mp/x7asL) but I don't understand why you haven't gone further?
My suggestion is that you move the "SignUp / Login" button to the top of the page (in the header, next to the search bar) and then stretch the content section (div id="content") from "656px" to around “856px”.
Then if a user is signed in... I would suggest that with a bit off ajax you could create a "Click To Expand" user box... This would slide down from the top (from the space that is left by the "SignUp / Login" button) and display the current user box (i.e. their image and user links) over the page content as and when they need it!
I would then also hide the new "lists box" content so that only the header is displayed automatically... Then whip out the ajax again to create a "View" button that would slide down the list of "lists"...
This would make the page look something like this - (note that as this is an old style page I have also removed the "edit" & "history" buttons from the middle of the page and moved the edit button up to the top menu bar (the place where I would put it if my suggestion of editable "new style" pages was implemented))
I hope you like my suggestion!
Kind Regards,
Michael
