Michael Howe replied on August 04, 2009 03:00 to the problem "Issues with the new AboutUs domain pages!" in AboutUs:
Ok, I cant help myself... :)
1) If you flag new pages as "adult content" the site screen shot still displays! (unlike the old page functionality)
2) The "social media" links seem a little pointless on most pages... This is because barely anyone Tweets domain names (they are usually url shortened), puts them in their video descriptions (as that's too obvious for a viral to spread) or puts them in there flicker description. Wouldn't it be better if that section could be "edited" to either attach the sites user name... or a list of search terms (like the overheard functionality offered by GetSatisfaction)
3) Can you create a new "Manual Domain Page Creation" form... this is just because currently if use the one on offer it creates an old style page! (Thinking about it... you doesn't even need a form, just a blank AboutUs page)
4) Can you please add in some functionality to the bot to auto recognise and flag parking lots, domains for sale and adult content... (Its just I've had to flag some sub-domains of sites I've already flagged)
5) Can we have more flag options! I know I've requested this before but with the new page layouts, warnings such as parking lot, Illegal Sites, .etc will not be as prominent.
6) I also don't like the way the summery and the topics are displayed on the special pages (i.e. the move, delete, .etc)
Right, That really is it for tonight!

I don't really mind the size... but it would be good if it could be optional as some addresses are only used as a "contact address"!
That said I personally think the whole "Address/Contact" section needs to be looked at again... as I would like to see small sub-headings for each contact option + a wider selection of contact methods.

Ok these are really not the best examples as one is in Swedish and the other one bairly has any content... but they both resulted in totally empty AboutUs pages.

Michael Howe replied on August 04, 2009 01:10 to the problem "Issues with the new AboutUs domain pages!" in AboutUs:
Hi Mark,
I have a bit more feedback for your "new bot" team...
Firstly I'm loving the new method of adding / removing topics, such a vast improvement on the last method... But there are a few issues;
- It allows/creates multiples of the same topic. (see http://www.aboutus.org/Turnstone-Desi...)
- It allows/creates blank topics if the last topic has a "," after it!
- There doesn't seem to be a character limit on the topic's it allows/creates, so they sometimes look very odd / are hard to read (see http://www.aboutus.org/PureBuxton.co.uk)
Secondly the auto text in the wiki that sates "There's nothing here yet, click here to edit the wiki section." vanishes if you have to move the page. (see http://www.aboutus.org/Turnstone-Desi...)
Lastly I like the new layout... but I cindof miss the overall page editing!!! This is because there are often websites without "logos" or if they do have them they make the page look much better if they are at the top.
I propose that this section can be edited... but only to add / remove / move template boxes... i.e. on clicking edit all users will see is;
{{Info}}
{{About}}
{{Logo}}
{{Contact}}
{{wiki}}
{{additional domains}}
This way you will still be sticking to your wiki roots while inputting some much needed structure! This would also allow you to release "bot updates" alongside new {{templates}}. (i.e. The RSS Feed module I requested. Hint Hint :)
Right, I have more... but that's it for now :)

Page Summery Functionality...I only have one suggested addition to the "Page Summery" functionality... but I thought I would keep this thread open just in case other people have some ideas for it. (i.e. I've seen people trying to wiki link within the summery)
Right, all I want is for it not to just state "Oops! Your summary is too long." once I have gone over the character limit... Can it please show the amount of character I'm over by - i.e. (-12)

mmm... I've had a look back through my edits but I can't seem to find the page that was listed with nothing (I'll re-post if I find another one like that)!
But I have just "recreated" the AboutUs page for turnstone-design.com and even though there was an image on the front page named "site_logo.jpg", your bot still didn't pick up on it! – Michael Howe, on August 03, 2009 23:19
Michael Howe reported a problem in AboutUs on August 01, 2009 06:01:
Issues with the new AboutUs domain pages!I really like the new page layouts BUT there are a few issues...
1) Redirecting a new page creates issues as the user is no longer able to clear the whole page to add the redirect link... so it seems to leave the "topic tags" active... (see http://www.aboutus.org/best-sites/gro...)
2) There is now no way to change the url/domain for the thumbnail... This becomes an issue with sub domains as it only shows an image of the main domain! (see http://www.aboutus.org/Nailed.co.uk.tt - .co. is the main domain name)
3)The new address / contact section is very restrictive (lack of contact options + no space to elaborate or add notes) and the map function sometimes doesn't work even though searching the address in google maps brings it up! (see http://www.aboutus.org/Blog.Ultimate-...)
4) The new bot seems to be useless at collecting correct info... I added a page the other day and it collected nothing even though there was a contact us and an about us page and the WHOIS record was up to date!
I hope this info has helped!
