A comment on the problem "How to fix logging disable from ScreenSaver?" in RescueTime:
Robert, if you are still seeing this issue, could you email me at team@rescuetime.com ? I have been unable to reproduce this issue with screen savers, however we've had another user report the same thing. I'm hoping to get a bit more information about your setup in an attempt to reproduce it on out testing systems.
Thanks! – Joe, on June 02, 2008 22:33

Mike - that's a great idea and one that we have on the list to get incorporated in the 2.0 version of RescueTime. We are currently in development of the next generation of data collectors and idle time accuracy is one of the areas we are reworking.
The whole set of logic behind idle detection, log enabling/disabling, sleeping, hibernating, etc is being reworked with accuracy in mind. We also plan on having a number of customizations that will let advanced users tweak the way a lot of this works.
Thanks!
Mike shared an idea in RescueTime on June 02, 2008 17:02:
Idea to improve accuracy at idle timeIt occurred to me that all of the "dead time" between when you last do something and when the 2-minute idle timer kicks in could be removed simply by not logging the time between the last keyboard/mouse/window event and the expiration of the idle timer. i.e. keep track of the timestamp for the last event, then when you get to the idle timout, you use that previous timestamp when logging rather than the current time.
Also, 2 minutes seems like a long time... I hardly ever go more than 30 seconds without at least fidgiting with the mouse, even when reading a document. Perhaps that timer could be settable on the preferences/logging/timer settings tab.

Thanks for the letting me know Robert, I'll do some more testing with that scenario. The reason it takes a couple of seconds longer when unlocking, is that they check now occurs during the scan interval, so we can handling the Logging Between functionality that was added with version 1.0.5. So, depending on what you have your scan interval set to, that's how long it will take for RescueTime to realize that it has been woken up.
I'll let you know what I find out with the screen saver scenario.
Thanks!

This issue did seem to be resolved initially, but in continuing to use the latest version, I've seen RescueTime still experience issues starting to log again. If I lock my computer and unlock it, RescueTime seems to resume logging within a few seconds (it still takes longer than it used to!). However, if my computer goes to screensaver and then I unlock it, that's when I've noticed long delays/failure to resume logging.
