Hi Marg,
The error you've copied and pasted above is a Facebook error and is currently listed as patched/fixed by Facebook. You might think Facebook still has some work to do, but it's actually a lot more complicated than that.
You're not the only one reporting this error and BorrowMe isn't the only site affected by it. There are a number of theories as to why this keeps popping up when and where it does and just as many solutions. There is a large community of developers out there working on a solution.
I hope you don't mind helping all of us track down possible causes and solutions by answering a couple of questions.
- Which version of Windows are you using? (ie. Windows XP)
- Which web browser and version are you using? (Ie. Internet Explorer 7)
- When was the last time your Windows was updated? (ie. 2 months ago)
- Are you using AVG, Norton Antivirus or another antivirus / firewall product?
- Are you behind a proxy or external firewall?-

Mike replied on October 25, 2009 18:28 to the problem "contact us email links broken" in BorrowMe.com:
Please note that you can always use the Feedback tab on the right of your screen and send us your questions, comments, praise and/or bug reports using a web form.
The contact us links work using the mailto: HTML tag. This will automatically launch an email client and spawn a new email message with the selected email address pre-populated in the to: field.
Users that have a mis-configured, completely missing or simply don't use an email client (ie. Gmail, Hotmail, Care2, etc...) won't be able to use these links on any website.
There are a number of reasons why this could happen and just as many fixes to the problem. Let me see if I can address as many of these scenarios as I can and provide a solution for all users in all cases (copy/paste).
A number of fixes depend on which email client you're using, which operating system your running and which browser you have installed.
If you're using Firefox, Thunderbird, Sea Monkey or any other Mozilla product on any operating system (including Windows, Mac and Linux) you can read this article which helps to address this concern. MozillaZine - Default Mail Client
If you're using Internet Explorer, Outlook Express or Outlook on a Windows system, this problem probably doesn't apply to you as this is the default setup. However, some users of Outlook might run into this problem if they have more than one email client or prefer to use a webmail provider. If you think you're having this problem, Microsoft has a support page:
For Windows XP: How to Setup a Default Email Client.
For Windows Vista: Configure Default Email Client for Vista
One of the most common problems with this scenario is that the user doesn't have an email client installed (or setup) and/or only uses webmail access such as Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail.
If you're using Gmail you can configure Thunderbird Email Client to use your Gmail account. You can also configure Firefox 3.0 and higher to launch Gmail web access as your default client in Firefox 3.
How to configure Firefox 3+ to use Gmail as your default mail client.
If none of the above apply to you, you'll have to search the web for a solution that works for your OS + Browser + Client combination.
You can also right click on the link and select, "Copy Email Address" (Not available in all browsers) or use the old school copy/paste method (these addresses are displayed as regular text). You can then manually launch your email client or login to your webmail client and paste the email address into the To: field.

@bjluchion: I can see your two attempts to sign up and can confirm that the emails were sent. It looks like the activation email was flagged as spam by your provider. Please check your spam box.
I created an account with your provider and tested the sign up process. The activation email was indeed sent to my spam box. I'll be working with them (and others) to get our notification email address into their whitelists. I'm told that this can be a long and laborious process.
Until then, to avoid future notification emails from BorrowMe getting flagged as spam, you'll want to select that email and click on "not spam" at the top of the page.
For anyone else having a similar problem, please check your spam folder. If you don't have a spam folder or you're setup to have all spam automatically deleted, please add the following email address to your white list or your contact list.
- noreply@borrowme.com
If your activation email has already been deleted by your provider you can request to have your activation email resent by visiting the following link.
http://borrowme.com/ucp.php?mode=rese...
You may also want to add the following email addresses to your white list.
- info@borrowme.com
- help@borrowme.com
Please let me know if you have any other issues activating your account.
