Hi Justin,
It has been an unusually tricky figuring out what's been slow. I've completed a fix for this and we are testing it now before making it widely available to all users. You can try the fix out for yourself by changing your URL to point at "alpha.otherinbox.com" instead of "my.otherinbox.com".

Hey everyone, I know this has been an ongoing frustration for our users. I've made fixing this my top priority. I have traced the problem to a particular block of code that is not performing quickly enough but I can't quite pinpoint the source of the problem. I've added some probes to our software to reveal it.

Hi Kenny,
We had some messages get backed up in our delivery queue this week and working quickly to get them all redelivered. That explains why the older messages are popping up. We're very sorry for the inconvenience!
I'm not sure why older messages are becoming unread, would you mind emailing us with more details? (Your user name and the name of the mailbox where these messages are appearing would be good) Our address is help@otherinbox.com.
Thanks!

Josh, I apologize -- this is obviously not acceptable and very inconvenient for you. The good news is we never permanently delete messages unless you explicitly tell us to do so. We recently made some database upgrades and it's possible there was a problem migrating some of your messages to the new format.
Can you contact me privately to let me know your user name and the name of the mailbox where these messages are located? I will manually check our system to make sure the messages are where they are supposed to be. You can reach me at mike@oib.com.
Again I apologize for the inconvenience. The safety and security of your email is of paramount importance to us.

Mike Subelsky replied on July 08, 2009 14:25 to the question "Messages lost after database upgrade" in OtherInbox:
Hi David, I apologize for this inconvenience. Your messages are totally safe -- it looks like a small number of messages were not migrated from the old database structure to the new database structure. I am running an audit right now to make sure everything gets moved over. In the meantime if you email me the details of the specific messages you are looking for I can forward them to you directly or move them over manually. You can reach me at mike@oib.com or via AIM at msubelsky@mac.com.
Again I am sorry, I know how annoying this must be and what bad timing it is.

Yes I think there's a good work around for this. If you do not pass "type=startup" with your initial request, you won't get all the extra stuff. The only thing you will miss is information about the initial set of folders (Inbox, Saved, etc.) -- but since that rarely changes (has never changed to date actually) you're fine to create those objects on your own.
Then all you have to do to get a list of mailboxes for a folder is pass "folder_id=???" as a query parameter to the /refresh URL. That will return a list of mailboxes belonging to that folder.
To get a list of messages belonging to a mailbox, pass "mailbox_id=####" and "folder_id=###" -- you'll see some duplication between mailbox IDs (which are composite keys) and folder IDs. So for Mailbox 15 in folder 1, you would pass folder_id=1 and mailbox_id=1-15...not ideal but that's how things have evolved.
Let me know if you have more questions, I'm super excited about what you are doing!
