Hey there,
We're still implementing and in the testing phase on this portion of our distribution program. All shows approved for distribution to YouTube will be able to participate in this program in the coming months.
Sorry about the delay here, but we want to make sure that everything works perfectly on this one!
Yours,
Mike
Mike Hudack replied on October 08, 2009 22:27 to the question "Transfer rate slows down" in blip.tv:
Hey Jonathan,
Sorry you're disappointed. I've definitely played back files that are still downloading in iTunes. It should work, although I don't know when this behavior was introduced.
I can also tell you that introducing this rate limiting hasn't seemed to affect people's appetites for podcasts or podcasting. Our iTunes-based traffic continues to grow at a rate unchanged since we introduced rate limiting.
Yours,
Mike

Yes, you can do both of those things without upgrading. – Mike Hudack, on October 08, 2009 01:31

Mike Hudack replied on October 08, 2009 01:28 to the question "Transfer rate slows down" in blip.tv:
Hey Jonathan,
We've found that the vast -- vast -- majority of podcast downloads occur in the background. They're generally consumed long after the download happens. Generally when folks are looking for instant gratification they watch in their Web browsers. When they're looking to take media with them later, they download.
That said, our throttling of downloads actually still allows people to watch (or listen) to the download as it's happening. This is because we still allow downloads to happen faster than the actual media file is encoded. Right now that means that 30% arrives as fast as possible, while the rest happens 20% faster than the media's encoded at. Just double-click the still downloading file in iTunes to start consuming it.

Mike

In that case you should send an e-mail to support@blip.tv. We'll check it out and help get in touch with Apple if need be.

Mike Hudack replied on September 11, 2009 23:11 to the question "Film Makers using blip to host demos... did blip take your account down?" in blip.tv:
Hey Alicia,
This is a tough area for us. Blip is for Web shows, but we recognize that some folks who make Web shows (or who may one day make Web shows) want to use blip to host their reel.
Drop an e-mail to support@blip.tv telling us what happened and giving us your username.
A real human being (generally a guy named Tom, but on the weekends the responsibility rotates between almost everyone in the company) will read your e-mail and try to make a call. If you e-mail over the weekend there's the possibility that they may punt to the content team (which could take until Monday) but either way you'll get a resolution quickly.

Mike Hudack set one of Mike Hudack's replies as an official response to "eCPM" in blip.tv
Mike Hudack replied on September 10, 2009 11:19 to the question "eCPM" in blip.tv:
Hey Vincent,
The average eCPM on blip.tv is quite a bit more than ten cents. For US views on content that is well produced and appropriate for all ages, it currently averages $5 or more net to the content creator. This is not to say, however, that all content creators achieve this rate.
There are a number of factors:
- US views are worth much more than international views;
- Metadata like title, tags and description are used to target ads;
- Ads are easier to traffic and track in Flash playback than in downloads, so Flash playback serves many more ads;
- Advertisers are pretty sensitive to content -- the raunchier your content the lower your eCPM is likely to be.
At the moment we don't show a calculated eCPM in the Dashboard because of these and other factors. We're working to figure out how to best communicate a number that takes into account US/international traffic, et cetera.
Your best bet in your particular situation would be to contact support@blip.tv for help. They can take a look at your show and your statistics and see which of these factors (if any) are at play, or if there's something else going on.

Hey Stimulator,
Very sorry about this. There was a fiber cut in Manhattan that affected us and a bunch of others. About half the videos on blip were offline for approximately an hour. We blogged about it at http://blog.blip.tv/
Everything should be good now. So sorry about the problem. From now on we're going to update Get Satisfaction along with Twitter and our blog if something like this happens in the future.
