Hi Anthony - We've got a beta of the FireFox extension that should work with FF3 (fixed the broken Greasemonkey dependency issue). If you're still a FF3 user, would you like to do some beta testing on it for us? – Melanie Baker, on June 03, 2008 19:49

Anthony, apologies for the slow response. GreaseMonkey team has still not released an official update for FF3, but in the meantime, please give this a try: http://groups.google.com/group/greasemonkey-users/msg/932816b3eb2856a6 – Ilya Grigorik, on May 25, 2008 17:50

Just want to add that I started having the same problems this past week (end of April 08), and my email situation is quite sensitive as I work in Tunisia and I can't even use Outlook in this country. I thought gmail was a solution and now I'm really stuck! Switching to the older version doesn't help. I can't even open up new mail. The only thing I can manage doing is opening a new message, popping it into a new window and sending.
Where's a solution?!

For those who are still having trouble with Gmail being slow, have you tried what Nathaniel767 suggested 5 months ago?
Here it is again, as follows:
. . .All you have to do is switch back to the older version you can find the link to change it back at the top of the page on the right hand corner it looks like this.
whatever@gmail.com | Settings | Older Version | Help | Sign out
I just clicked that and every thing is as fast as ever. . .
Or, as Mike Reynolds implied a month ago, you can just set your Gmail link to: http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=1
I have to admit I am curious, though. At the top of this page it says "Google is here! 3 employees are listening and participating."
If that is true, why are there no comments here from Google?

This bookmarklet for posting URLs to Twitter is nice because it allows you to edit the message before sending. http://myopiclunacy.com/2007/11/06/mi...

I don't have Firebug and for the past year I get hit with more and more lame "Ooops we encountered a server error and your email has not been sent" BS in addition to my Gmail getting hung and timing out, leaving me with a blank white screen when I login into my account.
Sometimes it takes me 10 minutes and 2+ error messages to send just 1 email!
Is Gmail broken - how do I get it to work faster?

I was hoping the problem was maybe some extension like Better Gmail. I have a brand new Lenovo R61 - but on my work Thinkpad T42 it also does not occur. Its the impossibly SLOW typing that is so frustrating - and if i switch to the old version some extensions like Remember The Milk aren't supported so it's a catch 22. Seems absurd to have to resort to another browser ...

Not that I am aware of. However, I have hit on a workaround: I am a dedicated Firefox user, but I have found that the Gmail problem does not occur in Opera. So ... I have both browsers loaded and do all my emailing in Opera.
Interestingly, the problem does not occur on my new laptop, so clearly there is some conflict with my PC setup. I just don't know what, specially when switching to the old version solves it.

In hindsight it may be a bit unclear. You are supposed to go to http://reader.google.com (the main GoogleReader site) - and from there you will be asked to activate the extension :)
