MikeSobe shared an idea in foursquare on November 12, 2009 14:36:
See common venues on friend requests.I think it would be useful to see a list of places that both you and the person who is friending you have checked into. That way if you don't know the person you can see, oh we both visit this bar a bunch or we share a common love for sushi etc...

I had the same thought the other day. If you add a tip and 10, 20 (some number) or people say 'I've Done This' you should get a badge. If 10, 15 (some number) of people add it as a 'To Do' you should get a badge. Then it would also be cool if a total of 100 people have done things that you've suggested you get a badge as well.
I believe the tips are one of the most under utilized parts of foursquare and should be incentivized through badges. By creating badges around how many people have done or would like to do your suggestion would hopefully cut down on people spamming tips everywhere.
A digg like voting system would also be nice for the tips. The high rated the tip is the closer to the top it is displayed.

It might be useful to show how many times total you've checked into a place and how many times in the last 60 days on the little 'We've got you at ...' response you get when you check in.
Also I'm not sure how it's currently set up but it would be a lot less confusing if it shows how many times the Mayor has been there in the past 60 days, not total.

MikeSobe replied on October 22, 2009 16:10 to the idea "Don't use the city name as a default if you're outside the city" in foursquare:
This is an interesting point. I've been adding some venues for Cleveland which has a downtown but definitely has a more sprawled social scene than other places. I have left the city has Cleveland even though these places are 15-20 minutes away from downtown. I wasn't sure if I should be changing the city to the local city/town or since they are all under the Cleveland umbrella if I should keep it as Cleveland. I do put the correct zip code though.

Personally I think it's nice to have a few local spots you go to often. If it's a random Tuesday night and you want to grab a relaxing drink with a friend it's nice when you know the bartenders and know that the place you are going to has the exact atmosphere/people that you are looking for.
At the same time if all you ever do is go to the same 15 places over and over then it kind of defeats the purpose of foursquare. I think that giving 5 points for a new venue is a good way to incentivize (making up words) trying out new venues.
