    Bigger font sizes
I like that Tweetie on the Mac has settings to adjust the font size, but since I also use it on my Mac min that's hooked up to a 42" Plasma 14 pts. just isn't quite enough...! :(

Any chance that you could include maybe 2 more font sizes (16 and 18 or so) in an upcoming update...?! That would really be nice...! :)

    HD Trailers (1080p) from apple.com
Now that Apple is actually offering HD movie trailers not only in 720p but in 1080p as well, can we get those included as an option in Boxee...?! :)

    Pretty please...?! :)))

    Customize fonts
Not much of a big deal, but it would be nice if one could actually customize the fonts and font sizes being used...!? Right now the "Appearence" panel doesn't offer any such option...

Setting a certain font and size is pretty much standard so it couldn't be that hard to include, I guess...?!

The reason why I'm asking is that many toimes I am actually using the Mac min that's hooked up to my TV set as my main livingroom computer...so reading the screen from the couch isn't always that easy when you can't customize the font or font size respectively...

Yes, it sure is weird...and yes, I'm using the latest version of Boxee, which has worked okay so far...

And yes, the sources are all connected and I can browse them and see all the files in there and even play the files from there...! They files just don't show up in their respective menu areas like 'Movies' and 'TV shows' anymore...! :(

If I erase my library, whyt will I lose and what do I have to do next...? Do I have to restart and then let Boxee recognize and index all the files all over again...?

Not sure what you mean by "resolve the content manually" though...?!

Movies and TV shows not showing up anymore
It's the first time that I experience this problem and I'm a bit confused...

When I open the Movies menu it doesn't show any of my movies, just blank empty space...! When I open the TV Shows menu it's the same...!

All the stuff that was there before is not showing up anymore...!? I quit Boxee and launched it again and still nothing...!? Haven't found anything about the issue on here, so is this a known problem and what can I do to solve it and/or prevent it in the future...?

Even rebooting the TV didn't help...! What now...???

The shows are clearly still there of course, as well on the internal HDD as on the external USB HDD and they are showing up in sources -- just not in their respective area with all the info anymore...

Different strokes for different folks but I am finding this beta very usable, very stable and very worth the money. It has already replaced SocialThing for my 'appregation' needs.

I honestly don't see how EventBox in its current state could replace Socialthing when the only social service it actually supports seems to be Twitter -- and even that is far from what other (mostly free) Twitter applications offer...!?!

Again, I don't mean to bash the app -- but seriously...?!

As for Facebook, it only shows you status updates...you can't do more with Digg news than browse through them and as for an RSS reader, there's plenty of those out there...! (Actually I find it odd to be included in the first place, but anyway...)

Never mind, I guess I'm just expecting more of an app than what EventBox has to offer right now...!? My bad, I guess...

And since I don't want my criticism being mistaken for unrightful trolling, I'll just shut up and leave this thread for now...

Once we release EventBox 1.0, you will probably hear about it from some source. Check it out then and decide for yourself.

I most definitely will do that, as I already said...

I think this is the source of our disagreement.

While it maybe one of the points we disagree on, it is not the only one. ;)
Generally I just think that this kind of business conduct is simply wrong -- plain and simple...

I also have the feeling that you're taking my criticism a bit personal, although it isn't meant to be...

You should also bare in mind that simply deciding whether to release a software product (finished or not) for free is not just a matter of putting a registration window - there are many internal factors which you might not be aware of.

Trust me, I sure know that...! I have been associated with the software business and software development since 1990 -- back in the good old Amiga days...! ;)

And while I am not a developer myself I have actually been in Sales & Marketing in the IT business ever since, so i do know what it takes to publish a software product and I am quite aware of the internal (and external) factors...

Anyway, I guess we can agree on one thing -- that we disagree...! ;)

So keep up the (undoubtedly) good work and I hope to talk to you soon, once you have a full version of EventBox ready for purchase...! :)

    Hey Milen!

I can see that you're posting the same comment everywhere there is a discussion about EventBox.

That's right -- and I am not doing it to offend you, but because I think this is an important issue that needs to be discussed...! And probably also because I am a bit disappointed by that kind of business conduct...

(I would have changed the title of this thread if that were possible, but as I was writing the initial post the price tag was $ 20 -- so it wasn't my intention to mislead anyone...! And you shouldn't accuse me of doing so either...)

Essentially, what I am byuing is a pig in a poke...! I would be pre-financing your development by purchasing an app that is far from being usable on a daily basis and about which I don't know enough to expect it to be finished any time soon...!

Don't get me wrong, I would gladly pay $ 15-20 for this once it is completed, but I wouldn't have my car dealer convince me to pay for the new car now and have the wheels delivered some time in the future...! ;)

Right now I have no idea when the final version is going to be released and whether it will actually be as useful/usable as I hope it might be...but you honestly expect me to pay up in advance...?! Uhm, sorry, not going to happen...

(And no, I don't think that $ 15 would be an acceptable price tag if you sold the app as it is right now...but that's just my own personal and subjective opinion)

As I said before - as long as it is a beta, it should be free...! Once you have a final version (whenever that may be), then you can/should charge money for it...!

Again, I am not saying any of this to insult or offend you and I do appreciate all the effort you are putting into an app that does have potential...! So I will keep an eye on EventBox and see where it goes -- and once you have a final version I will certainly consider buying a full license...! But as of now I'm back to Twitterific and Safari...

Wishing you all the best for the future,

    Charging 20$ for a beta?!
Okay, help me out here -- when did software developers start charging money for unpolished beta versions...?! I admit that EventBox has potential and I have long been waiting for some kind of "social web aggregator" for the Mac...but it lacks a whole bunch of services and it also lacks many features concerning those services...!

So giving users a trial period of 14 days and the having them pay 20$ for beta testing you app is a total dealbreaker...!

I think the app may be going in the right direction and I'm sure you people are putting lots of effort into it, which I certainly appreciate -- but this policy (that has unfortunately become more common lately) is just not right...

Leslie, thanks for the info...! Actually that's what I kind of meant -- if devs/companies even consider it, it's something they might do some day, who knows when...!? :(
But okay, I guess it's better having it on the list than neglecting it altogether...

And as for Martin -- I hope "speaks German" means he is a native speaker...!? I've seen some nasty translations now and then by people who thought they spoke the language...! ;)))

Anyway, still looking forward to the iPhone app, because right now I usually don't bother that much with doing more than posting a check-in note while on the road -- as nice as the web app is (and it really is as good as they get), it's still too tedious usually... – MILE, on October 20, 2008 23:27

The iPhone app looks great, and I can't wait for it to pop up in the iTunes store...! Took you long enough, guys...! ;)))

I'd like to repeat my suggestion to include international localization though:

(Too) many iPhone devs ignore the fact that many of their potential users live outside the USA and just neglect including any kind of localization...! Since Brightkite (unlike most competitors) works here in Europe as well please inlcude localization for a few major languages...!!

It's all about the user experience.... :D

We are making note of all the feature requests because we want to make a better application for our customers, but at the same time we are not going to stray from our vision for this app.

    MILE
Mark, thanks for getting back to me so fast...! :)

Are there reasons why someone would need to add/edit/delete weight data that's older than 90 days?

Well, I admit that's something one would need only once, when "switching" to the app -- it's just that I started my weight loss program six months ago and of course it would be nice to have an overview of the whole process and the progress I made ever since and not just the last 90 days...

Our ultimate goal is to provide the ability to scale the graph and we are working on a good solution. I'm assuming that if you could view more dates onscreen at a time, this would solve your issue right?

Personally, I'd rather consider that a workaround...!? ;)
But yes, it would at least improve the usability of the graph view...!

On the other hand, would it really be that difficult to just ignore the dates that don't contain a weight entry and only include those that do...?!

And of course zooming in and out would be really helpful as well, no doubt about it...!

We will be providing alternate graph views like weeks/months/years so don't worry. It's all just a matter of time.

Great, I'll be looking forward to future releases -- not worried at all...! ;)

Localization is another task we need to tackle and the default measures will be fixed based on that.

That would be nice, because even though the app itself is easy to use and doesn't contain too much text it's just a matter of improving the user experience. And as I mentioned before -- feel free to contact me if you need help with a German translation/localization...! I have occasionally done some before over the years, and I have recently assisted several iPhone devs in localizing their apps to German...

We designed it so that you can quickly enter a weight for each day. So it's important that when the phone launches, you are on "Today" and 0.0 makes it really easy to glance and know if you have entered a weight for that day or not. Once you press on the LCD, your last weight will be displayed and you can adjust from there.

Yes, I understand that, and it's not really a bug or much of a problem anyway -- just something one has to get used to to...

This application is just a side project for us so if we were to implement every feature we wanted, this app wouldn't be released for another 5 months. :) We wanted to release with the core features in place and we plan to improve on it over time.

Of course I do understand that as well, and many developers say the same thing, but -- and please don't get me wrong here -- from the user's side it sometimes creates the impression of an unfinished, half-baked app being released before its time...

By no means do I want to criticize you and I am sure that you have quite a few great things yet in store for all of us -- but as "delicious" as Weightbot is, right now it is only of very limited use to me and probably quite a few others...!? Even though I was kind of aware of that I still bought it immediately as it was available, because what I saw from the 'leaked' video and screenshots was pleasing enough and made me want to support your efforts -- which I'm sure you'll keep up in the future...! :)

    MILE
    Weightbot -- my first feedback...
First of all, I really love the GUI of the app and its usability...! This is what iPhone apps should be like...!! :)

But here are some of the flaws I discovered so far:

Like many other people I know, I tend to check and register my weight once a week -- that's more than enough for a long-term weight loss program and also the way many Weight Watchers groups operate...and since losing weight is a long-term process first of all I was a bit bummed that I couldn't go firther back than 90 days...!? But that's kind of acceptable, I guess...

The bigger problem here is the graph: since it lists all the days and not just the ones containing a weight entry I get a long, looong line that makes not much sense at all, as you can see fro the screenshot...! That would be way more useful if it would only use the days which actually contain a weight figure, hence making the graph more accurate and useful...! As of now it's not much use at all to me... :(

Another suggestion would be to add some kind of zooming feature when in graph mode, so that you can zoom in and out, show a monthly, weekly or yearly view and so on...!?

Also it uses the US standard for displaying dates when in graph mode, even though I am using a German phone and have set the app to use metric -- you might want to change that as well...

Since I cannot really have an overview of my weight stats in the graph view I was hoping there would be a list view -- but no luck here either...!? :(

As sweet as the app is, I think you need to add the option to track the weight progress in a list view as well...!

One last thing, not nearly as important as the ones above: when I launch the app it shows me the current day, but lists 0.0 kg as weight -- it should either jump to the most recent entry or just copy the last weight entry to the current day as long as a new entry has been made...

Really looking forward to your reply and of course to further improvement of what could be a great app and a nice start for a series of similar applications...!
