Font customization will ship before 1.0. Regarding themes, that's definitely low priority and will ship after 1.0. You can do some customization in the current version of EB but you need to edit the prefs file. See http://milen.tumblr.com/post/88599481... for more.

The reason why cross platform tools don't work are several. Firstly, they will always provide a second-class user experience. Most of the time, they will look out of the place or try to pretend they're a native application but will ultimately fail (there is not a single cross platform app that can fool me it's a native app).

You may say what's the big deal about looks? It's not just looks, it's about how the application works and follows the conventions of the operating system. It's also how it integrates with the rest of the apps / OS. Cross platform programs are terrible at integration because they suffer from the Common Denominator problem - in order to stay portable, they have to provide as much functionality as the least featured platform.

This is a major problem when writing apps for Mac OS X because it provides very rich developer interfaces which are not available on other OSs.

Our company position on this issue is that if we ever provide a Windows port, it will be a true Windows app and provide an appropriate native experience. I hope that answers your question. – Milen Dzhumerov, on March 28, 2009 22:02

The way development works is that we have a big list of features to be added - currently about 500. Implementing them all would probably take 2-3 years or even more (assuming we stop time). Clearly, we have to make choices what comes first with the limited resources we have. It's inevitable that sometimes a certain set of people will be disappointed because what they wanted didn't get implemented.

I can assure you that supporting identi.ca is on our list and we even have dedicated a developer to work solely on new services. Once he gets up to speed with our internal architecture, we will be seeing a lot more services. I cannot give an ETA but I can say that we will get there, sooner or later. We're definitely listening a lot to our users (take a look at our Twitter feed). We listen to them here as well, it's just that simply saying "implementing NewsGator" is not an easy task to do and definitely not something we can do in one week.

Regards Flickr favorites, they've been implemented for about a week now.

Just to let you know guys that just because it's on my TODO doesn't mean we will implement it without thought. We usually review and ask ourselves how best we can provide certain functionality without cluttering the interface while still being consistent with the rest of the OS.

The only reason for the limit is performance. Once we've resolved the problems, we will uncap everything.

That's a regression, it used to work in previous version and we broke at some point. It should get fixed for the next update.
