    MilkandCookies Network FAQ
Why didn't I receive my email?
Emails are sent immediately. So unless there is something terribly wrong with the backbones of the internet, you should receive any email from MilkandCookies.com in minutes, not hours or days. If you don't get your email in that time frame, then your server or email program probably blocked or bounced the email. It happens to us all the time.

In todays climate of spam email and spam blocking, alot of perfectly legitimate emails get marked as spam. Even though MilkandCookies.com sends no unsolicited emails, we get a constant stream of bounced emails.

The biggest offenders in this respect are AOL and the so called "free" email providers such as Yahoo and Hotmail.

So if you didn't receive an email when you requested one, make sure that you haven't gone over your quota and that your account is in good standing. If everything looks good on your end, use the MilandCookies.com feedback option to let us know and we'll look into it.

Here is a short list of common reasons for the bounced emails, according the the message from the offended email server.

    No User
    User unknown:
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name.
[server ip] does not like recipient
    action not taken: mailbox unavailable
Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable
    Final-Recipient: rfc822; unknown
This account has been disabled or discontinued
delivery error: dd This user doesn't have a [service provider] account

    Quota
    Over quota
This message is larger than the current system limit or the recipient's mailbox is full.
This account is over quota. account is full (quota exceeded)

    Pie Board Explained
The Pie Board is a place for MilkandCookies users to talk about pie.

What is pie? It's a delicious treat with a crust and a filling. Now if that isn't a universal metaphor, then what is?

The Pie Board is not a chat room, a private message center, a forum or a bug report form. It's not even a tag board, really. It's just a place to express your love of pie.

    MilkandCookies Network FAQ
Why aren't more videos in XYZ format?
This is a very difficult issue and it's unfortunate that it is. We want everyone to be able to view all the content we provide. In an effort to do this we try and go with open standards whenever possible. In this respect, we choose MPEG-4 because it is the next version of the most widely accepted video format, MPEG. MPEG is supported by every major video player. It was only after we made this choice that we discovered that Microsoft has refused to support MPEG-4, even the most recent versions of their media player. This is incredibly disappointing to us because we are consistantly able to get both high quality compression and small filesize with MPEG-4.

We are looking into other solutions, though. Windows Media, Real Video and Quicktime are proprietary solutions that only work properly in their own viewers. And though MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 work in most players, this file format does not compress well, good looking files are huge while small files look bad. We looked into trying to provide multiple formats for each video, but it would be time drain on not only to implement, but to maintain.

At this time, the most likely solution is the Flash video format. Even though it's a proprietary format, according to Adobe, Flash has a nearly ubiquitous install base. We are currently looking into compression quality, resulting file sizes and the best way to deliver these files.

    MilkandCookies Network FAQ
Can I submit a quote for the Quotes page?
First, let’s set some expectations. Your submission will most likely be rejected. Forewarned is forearmed, as they say. To understand why it will likely be rejected, here is a little history on the quotes page.

Before there ever was a quotes page, we had a single slogan for our site, “Are you my Dada?”. Later we changed it to other slogans like “What do you meme?”, “URLs Gone Wild!!!” and “Powered by velleity”. Soon we decided that we wanted to show all of the slogans. We started referring to them as taglines and wrote some code to randomly display them. This opened the floodgates and soon there were close to one hundred taglines.

People wanted to see every tagline on one page, and we wanted to be able to put them in context, including a URL to a reference of the tagline. We started referring to them as quotes and created the page with the extra information. But it really wasn’t a quotes page in the traditional sense.

MilkandCookies quotes are really just taglines for the header of the MilkandCookies pages with some reference to their origin.

The focus for us is to have a short line that works almost like a sound bite or a catch phrase, as most of them are, because they need to stand on their own – out of context – and still convey something interesting, preferably ironic or self referential.

You might guess that we believe most “quotes” don’t work for these purposes.

None of this is meant to discourage you from submitting one, only set your expectations. If you still want to submit a quote for review, you should use the mechanism we have for all questions and suggestions, the feedback form.

    MilkandCookies Network FAQ
    Advanced Search Features
By default, the Search form is set to 'any word' and 'sort by relevence'.

    monkey robot

This search will return links containing either "robot" or "monkey". Links containing both words wil list before links only containing one of the words. Word order is not factored into the results.

There are two other options available. Search 'sort by date' and search 'phrase'.

Sorting by date will display the most current links at the top, regardless of relevance. To sort by date, simply choose the sort by date option and resubmit your query.

Searching by 'phrase' rejects links which do not contain the exact phrase.

    "monkey robot"

This search -- note the quotes -- will not return a link with the description or title containing "your monkey is a robot". Even though both words appear in the link, it does not match the exact phase "monkey robot". Also note that this is not a substring search, so it will not match against "monkey robots".

You can use a combination of phrase and word searching.

    "this phrase" word
    "this phrase" "another phrase"

    MilkandCookies Network FAQ
    Latest Links Explained
In order to give posting to MilkandCookies a more exciting feel, we created a page where links can go live. But before they make it to the front page and start accruing points, they have to pass moderation.

When a moderator blesses a link it becomes part if the main database and becomes visible on the front page. Links that are really good may be associated with Headlines (read: points galore!).

The only requirement for submitting links is that you are a member. Though there is currently a three day waiting period before a new member can submit a link. This was necessary to avoid increasing amounts of spam links.

Links may be removed at our discretion and we can not promise that unblessed links will be kept current. Only the strong survive.

Have fun and post those sweet links you have been dying to share. ;)

    MilkandCookies Network FAQ
What happens after I submit a link?
Your link will immediately be listed on the Latest Links page.

From there your link is in the hands of other users. How they collectively rate your links value determines it's fate.

These are the four possible stages for all links. These stages are fluid. For example: a link can move from unmoderated to perminent and back to unmoderated at any time.

    Unmoderated
All links start unmoderated. This simply means that you link hasn't been looked at yet, or that it hasn't been deemed worthy of being a permanent link yet.

    Permanent
When a link is rated high enough, it becomes part of the permanent collection. As permanent as any link can be anyway. This is where the points start to tally up.

    Headline
A link that reaches this stage is given special treatment: a specialized graphic, a few extra choice words and top billing on the most popular page of all, the front page.

    Removed
If your link is rated low enough, it may be dropped from the MilkandCookies listing. Nothing personal. Not every link is right for this site.

Also, at any time an Admin may override any of these stages -- demoting, elevating or even removing your link completely. However, should your link be removed by an Admin, you will likely receive an explanation in your message inbox. Most links are removed for one or more of these reasons. If you feel like your link has been improperly handled for any reason, feel free to give us your feedback and we will look into it.

The formula used to determine to determine the progress of a link is a closely guarded secret. Here's a hint though: there is no set formula.

    Link Exchange Policy
We only offer link exchanges with other blogs. All blogs we exchange links with must meet the requirements of all other links. Most notably, we do not link to sites with porn, popup ads, et al. Check out the complete list for more details.

Once we have have determined that a site is safe for us to link to, we add them to a whitelist of approved sites. When one of those sites sends enough traffic to MilkandCookies.com (or any of the other sites), it shows up on the Top Referers. This list is updated regularly throughout the day, and is displayed in the sidebar of every page.

This same whitelist is used with all the sites on the MilkandCookies Network: DevilDucky, PistolWimp, and SugarJar. So getting approved on MilkandCookies automatically approves your for all our sites. However, each of our sites tallies their own trade traffic independently, meaning that links to PistolWimp will not effect listings on DevilDucky.

When linking to us, you can also use our graphics. For more info see the FAQ entry How do I link to your site?

We reserve the right to refuse linking to any site at our discretion.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or comments.

    MilkandCookies Network FAQ
Why is your link policy so restrictive?
We have kind of an old fashioned idea about the web. We would love to have an ad free web like the old days. However, we understand that hosting is costly not everyone can afford it, though it's getting cheaper all the time.

Our acceptable link policy allows for linking to sites with text and banner ads to help cover server costs. We draw the line with adult content ads, pop-up ads and those stupid embedded flash things.

We don't try to be all things to all people. The web is full of blogs, and if your link doesn't fit here, you can be sure it fits somewhere.

    MilkandCookies Network FAQ
    Link Submission Policy
We are looking for sites that are stupid, geeky, funny, pop culture, and political related (toilet humor is fun too). If you think it's a great site, someone else might, too.

Here are some of the reasons that links <font>do not</font> get listed...

Blogs: See Will you link to my site?
Self Promotion: Will you link to my site?
Temporary Links: Places like Yahoo News, eBay, FilePile, etc.
Current Events: We want links that stand the test of time.
    Journals: See 'Current Events'.
    Forums: See 'Current Events'.
Pay Sites: M&C is free, so too should its links be.
Members Only Sites: Yahoo Groups, New York Times, etc.
Ad Heavy Sites: Popup, popunder and flashing ads are just annoying.
Porn: Porn sites and sites with porn banners.
Downloads: No zip, gzip, sit, exe, etc.
Comics: We are letting Top Web Comics take care of this monstrous task.
Single Images: It's rare that a single image is very interesting.
Tests: Cataloging ubiquitous quizzes and online personality tests is a monstrous task best left to another site with an obsession for such things.
Collections: Except for the really outrageous, most collections are pretty dull: matchbook covers, bottlecaps, beer cans, etc.
Unusable Sites: Internet Explorer only, non-standard plug-ins, bad navigation, etc.
Racism: It's ok to joke about heritage, religion, ignorance and culture; but not race.
Physical Differences: What do you want, a world full of Kens and Barbies? Check this article: Fat is the new blackface.
Animal Unfriendly: We are an animal friendly site. No links about animals getting hurt, even cartoons. This includes bestiality. People hurting people, or themselves, well... that's different. ;)
Mental Retardation: I mean, come on... really.
Requests for Money: Good will abounds, and so do scams.

Feel free to post all the jokes about pedophiles you want!

Typos and lame post are the fault of the moderator, not the submitter. So if you are worried about it, don't be.

So post to you're hearts content.

If your submission gets pulled then it's either a duplicate post or it didn't fit our site. Whatever the reason, we'll try and give you a explanation.
