Miranda reported a problem in StumbleUpon on November 21, 2009 05:02:
I stumble a site, try to thumb it up, it tells me to submit the "new" page? This has happened a lot to me; I'm on a page, clearly Stumbled using the SU button on the toolbar, go to thumb it up, and the Discovery page comes up. Right now I am using "StumbleThru" MySpace (they're all Music pages), and the last eight or so pages in a row I've tried to thumb up have done this. It's not only with MySpace though; this happens kind of often.
Any idea why this happens?

Simple - Delete all Geocities pages from the Stumble database!Well, Yahoo!'s Geocities has shut down, but I still Stumble one or more "GeoCities has closed" pages a day. Same goes with AOL Hometown pages. There are a TONNNN of them there but I mean, they're all basically 404's.
So I'm thinking, if the Stumble Crew feels like doing some simple fixes that NO ONE could argue with, cleaning up defunct Stumbles would be cool! I'm not sure how simple that would be since I know nothing about the technical aspect of it, but hey. Just a suggestion to help clean up our Stumbles!-

New testimonial notification, but it's not there.Over the last few months (been Stumbling since April), I've gotten 50 something reviews of me by other Stumblers that do show up, but I've also gotten about ten notifications informing me that someone wrote a review about me but when I go to my testimonial page (using the link provided in the notification and another try through my profile) there are no new ones (and none by the people it says reviewed me).
One possible explanation could be that they blocked me after writing the review - this may explain why I have no real negative reviews - does that happen when someone blocks me? (I know I haven't blocked them, because I haven't blocked anyone at all on Stumble.) Do people really block people that aren't talking to them at all, that often though?
Anyone else having this problem?

Miranda replied on November 12, 2009 22:36 to the problem "Blocked sites are not blocked" in StumbleUpon:
I've had this happen as well.
I have another problem too, I have no idea how to describe it besides with an example - I kept stumbling pages on extratv.warnerbros.com - Extra TV is apparently a gossip site. All I wanted to block was the Extra TV crap, but my only choice was to block the entire Warner Bros site. There have been a few more something.domain.com sites that I've wished would allow me to block more specifically.
Anyway, the fact that my blocked pages keep coming up is more important, still- I often wonder if these sites are sponsored or something, since out of my 60+ blocked sites, it's the same few that continue to come up after blocking (Glamour Magazine, Elle, possibly more).
It doesn't happen often though, so I just click Stumble again.

Miranda shared an idea in StumbleUpon on November 12, 2009 09:28:
Ability to BLOCK pages from our Stumbles based on tags? There are a few things that I don't like to Stumble that I get quite a lot of in my Stumbles, one of those things in particular being celebrity gossip type stuff. Since I honestly don't care what Brittany Spears' favourite Starbucks drink is or that Megan Fox's sweatpants are blue, I would love love love love looooove to be able to block sites tagged often with "celebrities" from my Stumbles.
I do realize that I can block domains specifically, I've got 60+ sites in there already.
But even though "celebrities" is not one of my chosen 127 topics, I still turn up a dozen celebrity related sites a day - because those sites are also tagged with one of my chosen Interests/topics.
I know my example doesn't apply to everyone, of course - but I know a lot of other things do. I see a lot of people complaining about getting too many demotivational pictures, and lolcats, and so many other things. I know it doesn't apply to everyone too, of course.
And YES I know it's not essential and all I have to do is click the Stumble button again. But aren't we all looking for optimal Stumbling quality? I won't throw a fit if it doesn't happen, 'tis merely a suggestion.
But what would be the harm/problem in implementing a "block by tag" list for us to go along with our blocked domains list?

Miranda gave praise in StumbleUpon on November 11, 2009 06:03:
I know we complain more than we say nice things. So I'd like to give a huge thumbs up to the Stumble crew. Of course there's room for improvement, but I love Stumble. It's the best thing since the interwebz was created.
People put more time into complaining than they do giving praise, it is human nature (my inspiration to this post? Stumbling the wiki for Negativity Bias).
But seriously, with all the work the Stumble crew is putting in, I think they deserve some cookies.
StumbleUpon was a fantastic idea from the beginning and it continues to rock.
A comment on the idea "TOPIC/tag discrepancies and misclassification solution!!" in StumbleUpon:
Well, this is where the idea of branching out topics would be nice. So it would be, like, choose "NON-THEISTIC" if you want, but you can go further into subtopics and ONLY choose "ATHEIST" or "AGNOSTIC" if you'd like. Or choose the broader interest "COMICS" if you'd like, or expand that and choose only either "WEB-COMICS" or "COMIC-BOOKS". (The fact that when choosing your interests it says "comic books" but on the drop-down topics list on the toolbar and elsewhere on the site it says simply "comics" instead further complicates things... same with "sewing/quilting".) – Miranda, on November 08, 2009 06:01

It's not a complaint - it's a suggestion. I feel, and many others feel, that it'd be a nice improvement if we had topic/interests that branched out - giving us the option to choose the broader or more specific topics.
I don't see it written as a "demand" at all. It's a suggestion - we're in the suggestion forums for Stumble, so, this is, kind of what you do. That's.... what this is made for. – Miranda, on November 08, 2009 05:55

Exactly. When I'm stumbling just the "comics" category, I mean for it to be about COMIC BOOKS. But 90% of the pages are web comics. – Miranda, on November 08, 2009 01:13

A comment on the idea "TOPIC/tag discrepancies and misclassification solution!!" in StumbleUpon:
I agree. I'm at 127 as well and itching for MORE. I wish we had a higher limit (I also wonder, why 127? That's such an odd number). But, Harry Goz's idea down there - would solve this as well. Broad topics with the CHOICE to choose smaller topics. For instance, the ability to choose COMICS as a whole, but the ability to choose the sub-topics "comic books" and "web-comics" if we only want one of em. – Miranda, on November 08, 2009 01:10
