Inline shorter synonyms dictionary for dashboard's text field.
Inline dictionary of sorts that would suggest shorter words (synonymes) for longer words in order to make operator able to express more content with less characters. It would simply wait after operator stopped typing (2 seconds? 3?) and make a drop down that would let to choose a synonym (with character number indication, say on the right of the word). It should also remember fauvorite choices of operator and put them in front of the others. A specialized version of phone SMS dictionary, only working with whole words.

Praised be Ping.fm site and team!
Praises be for all the team for a great work and incredibly useful site. I recommend Ping.fm to every person I meet online and several I met off-line :-) I use Ping.fm every day and Google Alerts tells me my messages are indexed fast so I reach my audience without problems. I adore the spareness and color choices of your graphic design too, it's really soothing for the eye, tell person who made it be to be proud. It's really sexy, too (beautiful web-coding) - a nice hack as some might say, I am a programmer and web designer (for non-profits) and can tell such things apart at a glance. I never had any problems with Ping.fm, except I think one or two times my update was swallowed by *router gremlins* on it's way to updated sites as it didn't get indexed by Google. Cudos from Polish programers for your team! I hope my English didn't make your teeth hurt :-). Please write some more (some kind of "credits") about your team in your blog, I would very much like to meet (some of) you online and chat about hacking and rhyming ;-). Feel free to write me directly if someone from your team would like to talk trash to a crazy Polish girrrl with geeky mutations. I can talk English, Polish and Russian. My email is agquarx@mac.com (this one also AIM id) or agquarx@gmail.com (also GTalk id).. Oh, you are using marvelous Amazon S3 service for your database needs! Swell! Tell us more about insides of your site!

    Disconnected posting to IRC channels.
Allow posting to IRC channels. This would look like a custom trigger @{channel} {#channel} (curly braces being Tcl's quote character), I should think. I wonder how much processing power would it eat, though. If too much, forget it :-) Not a BOT, service would every time connect to IRC server and msg a channel (or join it first and then message). Then disconnect. Most people send only several Ping.fm updates a day so it shouldn't make you banned on IRC. I think. IRC admins can be hard to deal with ;-)

Semi-automatic expandable aliases for short triggers in dashboard's text window.
Expandable long aliases for short, one-two letter (Perl like) triggers in Ping.fm dashboard text window. Download BBEdit 9 (Bare Bones Software) if you don't know what I mean. An expandable alias would wait 2-3 seconds for operator to stop typing after first one or two letters and then expand to a list of propositions for triggers (long names) beginning with these letters. Can be made really fast and won't make your servers more busy since you delegate the work to client-side. Make them learn what operator choose - next time a first proposition should be the most often chosen expansion for these beginning letters, lets operator to type "DOWN ARROW" and "ENTER" to choose an aliased trigger. I know ECMAScript is hard to make portable across browsers, but this should be easy as it involves only some tag shuffling in-place and no CSS mangling. Don't avoid such things :-) Oh, if you do implement it, don't forget to write about it in your blog, it's a huge improvement, In My Opinion.

Long aliases for cryptic one letter triggers and actions in dashboard's text window.
Give long aliases (easier to remember, a word or word_word_word type) for every trigger and command useful in the ping.fm dashboard text window. Aliases won't hurt your system considering processing powers needed to implement them (a simple dictionary or lookup table will do...). One letter triggers remind me of Perl and it's one character special variables that can make a program really hard to read for novices. Make (of course) the character counter to ignore them (again, simple dictionary or lookup table in it's ECMAScript scripting engine will do as a way to avoid counting certain words). This way you may add more sophisticated triggers and actions to the text window, without the drawback of making them hard to remember and thus make them less useful (software elephantosis ;-)). I can program Perl, and maybe one letter triggers make less typing, but more clicking as I have to read the instructions over and over again, I simply cannot remember them all. One letter triggers make less associations in my brain, I guess. I *could* write a bookmarklet for your site which would let me use aliases, but I'd rather you guys do it, I need to do *my* day job :-) Cudos to all the team, I recommend Ping.fm to everyone I meet online!

Word completion using phone dictionary or alphabetical lookup. Expandable shortcuts. All life.
Add word completion to the dashboard textfield so one can type the message faster, something alike cell phone dictionaries or simply alphabetical lookup. Follow up: Add self-expanding shortcuts, build-in and custom - when you type such shortcut and wait 2 seconds idle it will expand. Need adjusting for usability.
