Yeah, the bug reappeared for me as well. @ev didn't actually give any timeline; he said they had the fix, but pushing it out can take a long time. I sympathize with this--I work for Google as a software engineer, and writing the code is the easy part. It even shortens bit.ly URLs with a custom name. URLs are content, please treat it nicely.
When the URLs are big enough so that the message is over 140 chars, it won't let me submit it until I shorten the URL manually. That makes the feature useless for the common use case. Do the shortening in the frontend UI maybe?-
