    Work vs Home
    Hi!

I would like to track my time in different places/locations, or combinations thereof.

For instance, I'd like to track my time when at home (call it "personal productivity"), but not necessarily mix those statistics with my "work" stats.

Sometimes, however, I might be at home, on "my own time", but switch to a task I'd like to relate to work. Conversedly, I might be at work, but need to handle something personal; I want to track that, too, but not mix it with my work (except, perhaps, under a generic "personal" category).

It would be good, too, to be able to View according to multiple categories (could be similar to, but different from, tags), not just one.

    Hi, Joe

I just thought to look at my system tray, and note that RT isn't running again - and probably hasn't, all day (it's 14:24 now).

If I l look at my stats on the website, I see the last activity logged was 17m 52s yesterday in the 16:00 slot (I went home at 17:30).

Of course, I don't know exactly where those minutes/seconds were spent... might be a nice feature to add to the wishlist!

That would help! Meanwhile, I'll try to remember to look to see if RT is running (otherwise I'll 'lose' the logging while it was down).

    Cheers,

    Hi, Joe

So, this weekend, I rebooted my computer at home, and RT came up as it should, and stayed up between sessions in and out of Standby. Then, when I came into the office this morning and came out of Standby, RT was gone.

I don't see anything in particular in the NT Event Logs (Application, Security, System, etc). Is there a 'debug' mode I can run in? I note that it's empty under the "Debug" tab in Preferences, except for "Idle Time: 0 seconds".

    Hi, Joe
When ready to go - and when I'm ready to start up again - I simply press the "Standby" button (note - it's really "Standby", as opposed to "hibernation").

To switch back and forth from proxy, I use a little IE add-in called "proxy switch" (sorry, I don't remember where I got it), which is the functional equivalent of Tools>options>Connections>LAN>check/un-check "use proxy", but with the click of a button in my toolbar.

BTW, I got home quite late last night, so didn't turn on my laptop. This morning, in the office, I started it (returned from standby), and note RescueTime is still running. I may have different news on Monday. Meanwhile, have a great weekend! =)

P.S.: This reply window ("Leave a comment about Joe's reply") sure is small - not quite three lines! I note that it also strips away CR's, so all of my paragraphs are lost. Sooo, next time, I think I'll use the larger "Reply to MontrealPaul's problem" window. Not so good for threading, but better for reading and editing! – MontrealPaul, on April 18, 2008 12:07

Hi, Joe, and thanks for your quick reply!

I'm using WinXP, SP2, running on an IBM T60 Thinkpad.

As I'm new to RescueTime, I'm not used to looking for it, and so some time passes before I notice it... And then I don't get around to restarting it... It seems to happen whenever I change environments, but I'll post a 'stickie' to remind myself to look, and get back to you. – MontrealPaul, on April 17, 2008 20:26

    RescueTime unloads itself
I keep looking at the system tray, to find RescueTime is no longer running (and, of course, my time has not been logged!). If I re-run it from my Startup menu, it runs fine.

I rarely reboot my computer, but rather put it on stand-by, when travelling between home and office. (I reboot about once weekly, to keep things "fresh"). The unloads seem to coincide with these switches between my home and office network (I go through a proxy for the latter), though I'm not 100% sure. Could it be?

BTW, I think this a great concept, and look forward to using it productively!

    Salutations,
    -Paul
