A comment on the question "There is so much more to id3 - can Songbird support it?" in Songbird:

metadata for other formats is certainly much desired as well! Album art tied to Vorbis will be awesome. I certainly do hope that advanced fields are ultimately included for all formats! – Morgan, on May 02, 2009 22:29

There is so much more to id3 - can Songbird support it?
Can Songbird support more advanced id3 tags? There's so much more to id3 v2.3 (or even 2.4) that is wholly ignored by mp3 players at the moment, and I can't find anything about Songbird add-ons incorporating these fields into the player. I think it would do wonders for increasing the userbase for Songbird - a solid player that makes full use of id3 would have every listener with an archivist streak flocking to the player en masse.

The full set of fields supported (and this is just 2.3) is here:
    http://www.id3.org/id3v2.3.0

If the fields exist, surely they can be edited? Who wouldn't want access to 'Encoded by,' 'Lyricist,' 'Original Performer,' 'Conductor,' 'Remixed by,' 'Publisher,' 'Recording Date' AND 'Release Date,' 'Official Webpage'

much less individual fields for Credits - 'Performer 1,' 'Performer 2,' 'Performer 3,' etc
Which would enable you to sort your library by Songs featuring Dizzy Gillespie, or with guest spots by Kanye West, or make a playlist chronicling the chronological recordings of Sammy Hagar though multiple bands (well, maybe not that specifically...) - that sort of thing.

It seems like inevitable future of embedded data, and seems like a natural fit for Songbird.
