I have to say that a lot of the criticisms of Firefox are well founded. Your browser shouldn't take up 300MB of RAM and I've seen Firefox do exactly that even with the add-in disabled. Firefox needs to do some serious work to optimize their code, reduce their memory foot print, do some garbage collection, and just generally be less clunky.
They've been more or less winning the browser war with IE. Now, though, they're dropping out of the race. I suspect that Microsuck has planted developers/community members that have pushed them into undesirable directions. I've seen Microsuck do this with other OSS and IETF projects when they feel "threatened".
That being the case, FF is, unless the long haul project leaders pull in the reins and start driving the project, totally doomed to eventually become another Netscape - a bit of historical trivia only a few of us even remember. Flock, which is based on FF, isn't nearly as heavy even though it has the same add ins and is running on the same system, side by side with the 300MB RAM hog FF.
Opera is certainly a strong contender as are several of the web kit browsers. I'm not sure that Chrome will take off. Many of us, especially corporate folks, have serious concerns about how MUCH data Google is mining off us. Using their browser is just sort of insult to injury. I think the mark of the beast is going to be the Google logo.
Opera is already coming installed on a lot of mobile devices. Safari for Windows might give Apple an in road on to the Windows desktop, but I hardly think that they're prepared to go head to head with the Tard Collective (aka Microsoft) .
Spreading yourself around to as many browsers as possible and providing as much functionality as possible is your best bet to survive no matter which one works out as the winner.

Schedule Automated Sync - set a time to sync once a dayLike Windows Update, let me set a time once a day to have everything synch. I use Xmarks to sync between browsers and computers. It would be nice to have them merged together at say 3 AM every day.
